2012 Ford Ranger T6 Cab Chassis Spy Photos

By Paul Maric |

Our spy photographers have snapped Ford’s 2012 Ford Ranger T6 Cab Chassis testing in Australia.

Ford Australia is heading the engineering project for the global Ranger platform, expected to go on sale in late 2011.

As our previous report indicated, Ford Australia is currently testing petrol and diesel variants of the Ranger.

Petrol variants of the Ranger are expected to use Ford’s latest EcoBoost engine technology, similar to what will be fitted in the 2011 Ford Falcon.

A 3000kg towing capacity will make the 2012 Ford Ranger a winner amongst tradesmen and those that tow caravans.

CarAdvice will keep you posted as more information comes to hand.

I still dont get the whole call a 2011 plate vehicle a 2012 model rubbish…..

That aside im keen to see this vehicle to see if the aussie engineering has finally broken the mould in the typical jap ute segment.
I really wonder haw far they have been allowed outside of the typical design parameters for a vehicle in this category

Will it be comfortable, will it handle good, will it not drink like a sailor, will it look good, will it come with a good safety rating, will it have a good interior???
All of which the current Jap utes fail to achieve.

That is why I will be very interested to see this finished product

    • wot the?

      We live in hope!

      • Andrew M

Yes we do live in hope, but since its aussie engineered, its chances of delivering are much higher.

The only other vehicle likely to break the mould is the Amrok, and you guessed it, it comes from the other place in this world where they actually know how to engineer great cars

        • noj

          Haha your joking right?

          • My Cars Called T-Rex

            No he’s not,but your a joke.

          • ScottB

No, he’s joking left. And because you don’t know the difference between your and you’re I will from now on give every comment of yours a negative vote.

          • noj

Scotty B, so does that mean you`re going to give everyone who uses the wrong you`re a negative vote? Because you are going to be giving plenty of negative votes, as Tool Rex who commented after me used it as well. But if you`re going to be giving me negative votes get in the queue, because everyone gives me negative votes. The problem with people like Tool Rex is they hate hearing the truth, they are just deluded by patriotic stupidity.

          Too right,
          NOJ!!

Too many emotional ford fairies on this site that think that voting someone down accounts for much….

As I have said before, this ford looks like a Hilux wanna be, except its 8 years too late…

I wonder if it will have all the ford australia’s trademark bad quality issues that palgued my brothers falcon?!

          • Andrew M

Toyota didnt invent the ute, so I dont see why you imply everything else is in following their lead.

Just face it, there is not one good handling 5 star safety rated vehicle in the Jap ute segment whether its a Hilux, Ranger, Triton, Colorado etc etc.

Aussies and Europeans have proven themselves to engineer pretty good vehicles.
I know people claim euros and aussie cars fall apart, but Im not entering that dispute as everyones experience seems to be different.
What you cant knock is the actual engineering feats of the Aussies and Europeans

          • My Cars Called T-Rex

Tomas79 – I see you got your X-Ray vision working and “Too many emotional ford fairies on this site that think that voting someone down accounts for much…”.AS opposed to,too many anti Aussies car morons who Make up bulls-it stories about aussie built cars. What, don’t you fools like aussies to have there own auto cuture. As for Aussie engineering,Google aussie inventions and see for yourself.

Why do they need a new Ranger already? The current model has been on sale for barely over 3 years. Compare that to the Rodeo, which is nearly 8 years old, and the HiLux which is over 5 years old. The lifespan of a ute usually ranges from around 10 years to 16 years. So replacing the Ranger after 5 years (in 2012 it will be), seems silly.

    • Andrew M

The ranger is really much older than a few years.

Its kind of like me claiming the Colorado is only a couple of years old even though its only a renamed and face lifted Rodeo

Its been a while since Fords Light truck has been a whole new design.

    • it’s me again

The actual Thai built Ford RANGER is just another facelift. Believe it’s the 3rd, so, correct me if i am wrong, the Thai Ranger was initially invented about some ten years ago.

  • Falcon_crazy

This is the model i am interested in looking at. Certainly looks to be bigger than the current Ranger. Liek AndrewM, i too hope the Aussie engineering will mean better handling and greater interior comfort…bring it one

  • Dlr1

Beacuse the current ranger/BT-50 platform was only heavily revised Bravo/Courier platform. This should be the first ALL new truck in nearly 25 years. The old design just doesnt measure up size wise with vehicles like the D40 Navara.

  • Willie

This vehicle is very important as this market segment is massive world wide. Ford needed to do something sooner than later as Toyota, Nissan, VW and recently Great Wall all have either dominant marker share already or potential to dilute the market further. Ford need a vehicle to take Toyota and Nissan head on. The existing Ranger and Mazda BT-50 are really good utes but need to be upgraded to compete directly with the big boys again. I am in the market next year and the Ranger is seriously under consideration. If the 5 cylinder diesel (460Nm) is ture… I am there!! What a great tow vehicle.

  • Long Live the Load lugger

I Believe Ford / Mazda are aiming for a 5 star safety rating,(probabaly not on all models as saftey is always an option) But DSC and crash testing in Sweeden is a must (why did you sell Volvo, Ford?) I still want the Everest (like a Toyota Surf)have CA seen any of these Mules???

And will the mounting points be the same so expensive bodies can be transfered from a current vehicle to the new model???

    • give ford a chance

If it IS an all new model and not just a revamp, the chassis will be different and therefore the mounting points will be different. Then you need to take into consideration distance from the cab to the rear axle and also the height of the cab from the said mounting points

  • Tim

I really dont see why everyone is making a big fuss about a ute. Be it locally developed or imported vehicle.

    • Dlr1

probably because the total number of utes sold here now is similar to the number of large locally built sedans and this is the first non passenger car derived ute that has been developed here.

  • LIGHT

    LIGHT CLUTCH??

    • Andrew M

Just about everything has a light clutch nowdays.

Its not the weight that bothers me, just the different lengths.
      I hate a long clutch

  • Phil

C’mon Ford Aust. How about a dedicated LPG “EGAS V8″ into the Falcon utes. You’ll sell a squillion of them.

  • Damo

Well after all the haters put their e-penises away, You will see that its a nice looking car.. 5 cyl kinda threw me a little, but its still got some really good features. The haters can hate, the people who love it will get one..
I can admit I am a Hilux fan big time… But the 3 tonne towing really has got me for this. Hilux with its massive 2.1t just does not cut the mustard. I may never use 3 tonne, but good to know its there if ever I do. Personal preference will always over rule. but yeah… its just another car.. next year we will be talking about something new and this will be forgotten about.

    • stick puller

The Hilux couldn’t pull a greasy stick out of a dogs arse with it’s 2.1L, but everyman and his tender arse dog has one, and the rodeo/colorado/d-max has a 3 tonne towing capacity for years so I don’t think it’s that big a deal for most, so you may be one of only a few converts.
