Lexus LFA officially sold out

By Tim Beissmann |

Toyota has today confirmed that is has sold every one of the 500 Lexus LFA supercars it plans to build.

Around one-third of all the 412kW/480Nm V10 powered coupes will find homes in Germany, after the Japanese brand heavily targeted that market in the promotional stages. Those buyers have already laid down $US125,715 ($150,287) deposits.

Prices for the Lexus LFA started at $US375,000 ($448,300), although US customers have to lease the car for the first two years before earning the opportunity to purchase it outright. Lexus implemented this policy to deter speculator buyers who planned to snap up the limited edition supercars and on-sell them for a profit.

Production of the LFA will begin in December with Lexus to make 20 each month for the following two years.

    Awesome car!

But half a mill for a Lexus?

    • KM

      For a Toyota you mean….

      • Camski

That joke is starting to wear very old, very fast.

Essentially what you’re saying is, first you analyse the badge, then you analyse the car. If someone offered you a “Lexus” or a “BMW” but didn’t tell you which model, you’d simply pass up the offer on the Lexus, purely because it’s a “Toyota”.

I’m sorry, but if by some chance the Lexus on offer was the LFA, not until you hit you hit Ferrari or Lamborghini will you see this kind of performance (or Nissan’s R35 GTR if you’re so inclined to choose a “Nissan” – ’150K for a Nissan, who’d have thought?’ – I hear) – BMW’s road cars couldn’t hold a candle to the LFA.

In this day and age, you judge a car by it’s feel and performance, and a specific model’s reliability and build quality. A brand means little to many cars now, it’s merely a name.

Worry about it when you can afford one =P
I def cant, I am not worried. lol

  • http://www.formalcars.com.au Tony

I would buy a Mclaren Mp4-12c over this any day! At least Mclaren wins Formula1 races opposed to Toyota

    • isf rules

“Tony” i dont think lexus target market is bogans! go down to the local holden dealer he may have something you CAN afford like a second hand daewoo/barina!!!!!!

  • Camski

Interesting move to force initial lease payments on US customers. It’s a good move I think, this is the type of car you buy to drive, and I hate it when people buy them, only to sell them for a profit.

Happens to anything that’s fairly rare, even your most basic AMG has this problem. People will buy them for $150,000, put 3000km’s on it, then sell it for 180-190K.

  • Trump

Marketing for beginners, release a limited amount with a huge price, sell them out, then release a special edition in 12 months time with a bigger price for all those who missed out first time. Then repeat every 12 months.

  • Steve-Poyza

Love the car. Don’t like this body kit, don’t like this colour. Why would they put a body kit on such a rare car?

  • Golfschwein

It’s a powerhouse, but a totally hideous one.

    • isf rules

Probably the best looking super car ever!!!!!!!! well done lexus!

      • The Other Brad

Best looking? Not imo. Imagine the looks of the Ferrari 458 Italia with the sound of the LFA. Bliss =D

        Imo at least =D

if i was rich this would be in my top 3 list of cars to buy. i wouldn’t care if it was a lexus, i can say i bought lexus’s first supercar

  • Bob

All 5 of Australia’s LFA’s are sold too.

There must be 5 very excited International Uni students out there.

    • Greasy

A bit more detailed please? What it has to do with international students?

      • Hyundai45

lol i think he’s joking about the too-rich-international-$tudent$-studying-english-in-Aus.

        • Handsome_Al

Well it is true though… Sorry.. We just happen to be able to afford “more” stuff..

          • Greasy

Well yeah i myself drive 08′ M6 coupe while some locals students catching bus to school. I was thinkin of putting deposit to LFA but dad suggested Gallardo LP570 Superleggera so I changed my mind.

  • ox

I can think of so many better cars to buy for 500k

    • isf rules

YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT! HA. HA.

  • http://www.lukehimself.net Luke

Sweet car, I agree there’s better options for the price, but it’s still a nice car and variety of cars is only a good thing!

  • Shak

Lexus has hit he mark. Have the Germans come up with any credible reply to this. I mean like BMW and MB. Audi i guess has the r8 V10 as the closest thing, but im just asking, have they got any competitors for this from the germans.

    • nickdl

      Mercedes SLS AMG, Porsche 911.

  • Hyundai45

    speaking my mind:
looks like a hyundamborghinesis coupe (hyundai genesis coupe + lamborghini)

no comment on THAT price for THAT

    • Mythfrances

I reckon this car has absolutely nothing to do with Hyundai.

  • BarryHamburger

    LOL at 500k. Gtr thx

  • Moey

It’s a better buy if you purchase a 2nd hand lambo murclieago

  • http://www.checkwebhosting.com Neutral

Considering this is Lexus’s first shot at the supercar arena, they have done a pretty damn good job. And the best thing is it has one thing no other supercars have – reliability.

  • http://www.facebook.com/martin.villegas Martin

Honestly, who cares if it’s a Lexus. It’s a great car in it’s own right.

  • maximark

The M3 is a much better car over all according to Top Gear.A supercar with the fake exhaust, how rediculous! Even the GTR look better than this car. Overpriced.

    • ElecEng

You must be confusing the LFA with the IS-F.
You can’t compare LFA with M3. LFA will just pulverize the M3.

    • LFA supercar.

“Maximark” go back to playing warcraft, do your homework next time before making such a stupid statement! And the butt ugly M3 is not even a match for the ISF let alone the LFA!

  • Joe

Typical fanboy raving. This car has not even hit the road yet. Not one has been delivered or even roadtested by anyone credible and already the fanboys are raving.

Get as excited as you want to, but don’t lose sight of reality. How many great supercars have Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche etc. produced ,even in just the last few years, and here we have Lexus with their first attempt.

What about the Mclaren MP4-12C, the Ferrari 458 Scuderia, the Lamborghini Gallardo Super-Leggera, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the Audi R8 LM?

Yeah, I’ll bet the Euro’s are just quaking in their boots.

    • LFA supercar.

“Joe” you are ovbiously not a car enthusiast as top gear has already done a road test on the LFA supercar, it was the fastest car so far on a wet track it did 1.22 that’s 3sec faster than anything before it! And i would say the euro’s are quaking in there boots as 30% of the world LFA sales went to germany, the 5 that australia got allocated went before the price even went official just goes to say JOE that price is no object when the it comes to being one of the first to own the first lexus supercar. A great car from a awesome car company i only wish i had the money as i would not hesitate!

      • Joe

“LFA Supercar”? WTF! What kind of a name is that? I mean the blogger not the car. With a name like that I’ll bet you’re a very impartial judge, are’nt you?

Just a couple of minor points lfa.

Who are all of these cars sold to? The Lexus dealers maybe? Been done before and sure sounds good doesn’t it?

How wet was the track that Top Gear tested the car on and which other cars were tested on the same wet track?

1min 22 secs on the wet track and 3 secs faster than what other car?

Describe a Car Enthusiast lfa. Is it someone who is enthusiastic about good cars in general or is it somebody who is in love with one car in particular even though he/she has never even seen that particular car in the flesh let alone driven it or heaven forbid owned it.

Lastly, Lexus have taken how long to develop this car? 3 years, 5 years, longer? Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini etc. seem to spit out better, more desirable cars with monotonous regularity don’t they.

As I said previously, I’m sure that the Euro’s are just quaking in their boots.

        • lfa supercar

Joe stop raving, and yes the euro’s are quaking in there boots as i said if you can read 30% of the lfa’s went to germany, end of story.

  • phil

If people were willing to part $500k for a Lexus as the story writes then its pretty clear badge cred and cost has little to do with their decision.

We can all go on about cars that are much cheaper with better 0-100 figures but its obvious that people who bought this car are buying the engineering of this car which is impressive. I myself don’t like the front styling.

  • nickdl

Shame they’re all sold out. I’ll just have to buy a GT-R and another investment property. :)
