2010 Nissan Pathfinder range revised

By George Skentzos |

Update: Nissan Pathfinder Review

The updated Nissan Pathfinder range has now arrived in Australia boasting class-leading pulling power from its enhanced 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine.

Coupled with improved equipment levels across each model grade, revised interior and refreshed styling, the Nissan Pathfinder is aiming to edge ahead of its immediate competitors in the medium SUV segment.

While the capacity of the 2.5-litre turbo diesel power plant remains unchanged, peak power has been increased by 11 per cent, up to 140kW, and peak torque is now 450Nm – a 12 per cent improvement.

The new engine – which is available across the range in ST, ST-L and Ti guises – also boosts the braked-towing capacity of the Nissan Pathfinder to 3,000kg.

Fuel consumption and emission levels have improved with the manual transmission model returning 8.5-litres per 100km combined – a 15 percent improvement – while the automatic transmission achieves 9.0-litres per 100km combined.

The revised model also receives a new bonnet, grille, new headlight design and front bumper assembly which adds 80mm to the Pathfinder’s overall length.

The range-topping Nissan Pathfinder Ti models now feature Xenon headlamps which boast auto levelling and headlight washers concealed in the bumper moulding.

Inside, the cabin has been freshened with revised door trims, new seat fabric, including leather seat trim for ST-L models and chrome highlights.

The higher-spec models also feature electrically adjustable and heated front seats, as well as driver seat and door mirror memory settings while the previous wood grain trim is replaced by a more modern and fresh metallic trim.

All models in the Nissan Pathfinder range are now equipped with a Bluetooth phone system and audio controls on the steering wheel, with the ST model adding a six-disc sound system with iPod connectivity.

An Intelligent Key is now offered with the ST-L and Ti models allowing keyless entry for added convenience, while the ST-L model adds the rear parking sensors previously fitted to Ti models.

The Nissan Pathfinder Ti boasts a hard drive-based Satellite Navigation system complete with seven-inch touch screen control, 3D navigation guide and local points of interest information.

Good upgrades. But why does Nissan Oz not upgrade to the new V6dCi ,3 litre engine available in Europe. AND this engine will be available in the Pathfinder and Navara’s from August in South Africa.
Why can Nissan South Africa (with higher selling prices) get it, but Nissan Oz will still string along the old engines??.

    • Cameron

I totally agree. People are wanting a fast V6 diesel.
C’mon Nissan OZ, make it happen

  • nickdl

14KW and can tow 3000kg. Brilliant!!!

    • Cameron

Can you imagine that little engine really towing 3 tonnes!?!? 2.5L 4 Cylinder? With any sort of in-car load? Sure it’ll do it, but how long until it dies? If there is one thing we’ve learnt from Nissan – be very wary about their small capacity diesels.

      • Cameron

Oh please, all the people that gave me a negative comment, go buy a 2000 3L Pathfinder! Please! They are good cars, you will love them, really!

        • LN

Still very popular with the used car sales when we get them in. The dont last long in the yard and are still reasonably priced.

  • Robert

Although the interior design and specs are a good welcome. I’m a bit reserved about the front end design. Previous model looked more meaner??

  • Ricky

LAME – the USA got the Pathfinder facelift in 2008!! And no more 4.0L V6?? That was the best engine in the range. And why no 5.6L V8 that the US gets?

    • JEKYL & HYDE

      ricky,you don’t own a petrol station do you?repeat afeter me..diesel,diesel,diesel..

      • Ricky

Repeat after me: noisy, smelly, pricey

  • Rick

Front end is ok but the rear is still hideous.

  • Richo

Thats all fine but to get that much power out of a 2.5 the boost pressure would be fairly big. Now thats not necessarily a problem, but would you expect to get 300,000km’s out of it? I wouldn’t…

Also, we had a Pathfinder in the family, 4.0L V6 version, and all I can say is I hope Nissan have rectified the reliability issues because that god damn car was ALWAYS back in the dealership getting sht fixed!

    • JEKYL & HYDE

      RICHO

from another car site.nissan have changed the head design, raised the commonrail boost pressure, improved the direct injection system.no extra turbo boost needed…

      • nick

Anyway Mitsubishi get huge amounts of power out of their Evo engines and still offer a 5 year warranty.

I have a full size caravan (1540 tare weight) and tow it with a 2005 Nissen Pathfinder 2.5 ltr diesel. All up weight with load would be about 1800 kgs. I find the Pathfinder makes heavy work of towing in hilly terain. I recently had the opportunity to compare the Pathfinder ‘s towing ability with a 3 ltr V6 diesel Discovery 4. No comparison The Disco towed the same weight much easier and with better fuel economy.
    .
I am disappointed with Nissen not having the 3 ltr V6 diesel option available on the revised Pathfinder .I don’t think the small increase in power and torque in the latest Pathfinder will make much difference in the towing department

Has anyone bought a 2010 Pathfinder TI? Did you get a manual for the Sat Nav? I bought mine 3 months ago and am still waiting for the dealership to find one for me. Apparently it is separate to the standard owners manual.

    • Ross McCowen

      Ross,
Contact me by email. I have Fair Trading on the go about this. My car was delivered ( 11 06 10)with the Series 3 Handbook and it took about two months of hastle to get the Series 4, handbook.I have been accused of stealing the Nav System Manual,as my Dealer’s GM, Sales Mgr, Salesman said the Nav System Handbook “was in the glovebox” then, months later when I received the correct vehicle handbook, told there is none. I have found , so far,in the correct Vehicle Handbook, 11 references that say “refer to separate Navigation Ststems Owners Manual” for more detail
No point contacting Nissan they just told me they would contact the Dealer, even after I told them that I had done that 15+ times already without result. Now the Dealer doesn’t even return calls.

      • indy

        Hey Ross

Yes it is very frustrating about still not having a separate supplied navigation book.
I have rang the 1800… in melborne number several times and they say just see the dealer.then at the recent 4.w.d. show i went to the Nissan stand to complain and they said keep ringing the 1800… in melborne ,as the call gets logged in the system.I have had enough of there rubbish.I am sure the box of books just got misplaced while coming over.

I recieved my brand new Ti on Friday. On Saturday after connecting my little box trailer to it, it started to play up. The electrics turn themselves off and on when driving. The indicators stop working along with high beam. The traction control is constantly off. The 4WD warning light flickers off and on.
It has spent the last 2 days back at the dealer with multiple faults on their computer checks but as of yet they can’t find the cause for the electronic glitches.
I buy new cars so I don’t have to worry about them being reliable. This seems to be a lemon. NOT HAPPY.

    • Terry

I got the car back yesterday. They had replaced a faulty sensor module under the drivers seat and all seem well now. A good outcome hopefully.

      • Ross McCowen

        Terry,

Did you get a separate manual for the Navigation System

        • Terry

No but it isn’t hard to work out except for the “home” setting. You push the set home button but you then have to enter a saved address.

  • Jos

    Hi all,

About the diesel engine 2.5L, I don’t use heavy towing (once a year perhaps). But would like to have outing (eg. Fraser Island) with my family of 7 (inc Mum+Dad) from time to time. Would that be powerful enough and last over 300,000km? Thanks in advance.

  • Peter

I bought my Manual Pathfinder st late december 2010 and has done 7500 kilometres. It was going like a train but after an oil leak being fixed 2 weeks ago (Timing Chain Cover Seal) I made about 2 kilometres from the Dealership and suddenly some funny noises, lack of power then engine oil warning light came on.Stopped, called the dealership and they came and collected my pathy and took back to workshop. Over 1 week on they think they have diagnosed the problem, a hole in the oil pump from a missing screw that has disappeared / evaporated. New oil pump ordered from Spain and will be put in when finally arrives. I am more than sceptical if this is going to be the only problem and wonder if anyone out there has had a similiar issue? I am shattered.

I have a 2007 STL Pathfinder and just ticked over the 100K. 3 teenagers, all the gear, towed the boat and some serious off road weekends. I’m pleased to say, not had any issues. The car still looks and performs like a new one. I’m in the market for an update and it looks like I’m going back for another. The Pathfinder is still offering the best value for money for my lifestyle. I keep trying to talk myself into a Prado but there’s to much about it I don’t like and its still $10K more. I can’t say if the faults you describe are typical but I’ve had lots of happy motoring out on mine.

  • Steve

Ive got a Nissan Pathfinder 2010 STL, great car but the following had to be replaced in the first 20,000km.
Radio, Steering Wheel – because of the so called Leather, wearing out , the Drivers side leather trim bottom seat , again wearing out,the bluetooth plastic trim on the headlining for the mike, and to top it off just the other day the Handle came off of the rear passenger drivers side door in my hand. Great to drive but will not buy again
