Mercedes-Benz SL 350 Night Edition confirmed for Australia

By George Skentzos |

Mercedes-Benz has announced that it has secured 25 examples of the limited production Mercedes-Benz SL 350 Night Edition for the Australian market – twelve of which will be finished in a special designo magno Night matte black paint.

Along with its unique finish, each Mercedes-Benz SL 350 Night Edition includes a raft of extra equipment and features – many of which have been sourced from the AMG catalogue – with a price tag of $246,000 regardless of paint finish.

In keeping with the dark theme, the remaining thirteen models will be finished in an Obsidian Black metallic paint and it’s a case of first come, best dressed to secure the preferred paint scheme.

The Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz Cars, Mr. Horst von Sanden said “With the SL being the longest running continuous nameplate in the automotive industry, there have been many special SL’s produced over its 57 year run. We have during the last 57 years debuted some very special features on SL-Class and the Night Edition continues that tradition to start off the next 57 years of SL”

Along with the special finish, the exterior also boasts 19-inch AMG five-spoke wheels, silver brake calipers with Mercedes-Benz lettering, darkened headlamps and tail lights including a third brake light, DISTRONIC autonomous cruise control, remote boot lid opening and closing, door handles with high-gloss finish and a “Night Edition” badge on the front mudguards.

Inside the Mercedes-Benz SL 350 Night Edition features new seats in Nappa leather, a sports steering wheel, gear lever, and door linings finished in black with contrasting silver stitching, black ash wood trim, the Mercedes-Benz logo on the door sills, “Night Edition” badge on the seat backrests and floor mats with embroidered “Night Edition” logo.

With the SL 350 Night Edition we have used the opportunity to provide a unique encompassing of the SL core values of luxury, safety, dynamics, performance and exclusivity. We have been able to secure twenty five of this truly limited run SL for our local customers, half of which will be painted in the stunning designo magno Night black.”

The Mercedes-Benz SL 350 Night Edition will arrive in Australian Mercedes-Benz dealerships in July.

Nice marketing job, the updated look of this SL has really grown on me it looks badass in the flesh. All the engine you need in this country.
    I WANT

3.5L V6 in an SL is a joke. You can get this engine in a $35,000 Aurion. $260k+ for V6 power LOL.

    • Devil666

The real joke is that you referred to an Aurion. I’m pretty sure no one cares about them. If I want FWD i’ll buy a euro-hatch. As for the V6, “The Germans do it better”, as I don’t see Toyota driving 230kW (311bhp) through the wrong wheels, I only see 200. Not to mention the solid 360NM pushed through potentially the best torque converter based automatic in the world. All while consuming less fuel in a heavier, safer and faster car. You get my drift?

Ultimately, no. You cannot get this engine in a $35k Aurion. This V6 is “teh shiz”.

The Nissan 370Z has more power (245 kW) and matches the Merc 7-speed auto. And it costs 1/4 of the price. The Merc isn’t the best auto tranny anyway, Lexus had the first 8-speed auto in 2006 and now BMW do too.

      • Camski

Ah but it’s the 2GR-FSE where the action is at :D 2KW’s off, but makes up for it with 17 extra NM’s of torque.

But this is hardly an engine war.

Benz’ Matte Black paint job is really, really nice, looks strikingly stealthy on the C63, can only imagine what it would look like on the CL.

That badge with the laser guided cruise control is weird, same with Lexus’ badges with the cruise control, too glossy. I guess it’s a reasonable trade off instead of having a “3rd fog light”.

Everytime I see a V6 powered SL or S-Class I laugh. Complete waste of money. If you cannot afford to buy the V8 then you cannot afford to be driving these models, plain and simple.

          • Banga

Different strokes for different folks. The reason for the different engine class is for exactly that of price and affordability.

  • Labrys

    Looks good.
Now if only it had some red LEDs in the front grill and could talk to me. :P

  • Buck

There’s the new direct injected twin turbo 4.7 litre V8 due later this year making 320KW’s and 700nm of torque.

It simply doesn’t make sense to buy a relativly gutless naturally aspirtaed 3.5 litre engine and spend quarter of a million dollars when there’s such a great engine due for release in a few months.

This is just a marketing con job to clean out the over-stocked, over-rated used spare parts bin at AMG.

Pure class. The SL and CL are in a league of their own, regardless of engine, in my humble opinion.
