As more drivers seek environmentally friendly motoring, car rental company Avis has announced its new Eco Collection scheme to provide its UK-based customers with a greener alternative when renting a car.
Avis has purchased more than 540 Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion models for its Eco Collection fleet which offers drivers a diesel vehicle with CO2 emissions fewer than 120g/km.
The Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion model fits the requirements perfectly. Fitted with a fuel efficient 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine offering 77kW of power and a combined cycle fuel economy figure of just 3.4L/100km, the Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion is capable of travelling up to 1450 kilometres on a single tank of fuel and produces a mere 99g/km of CO2.
Avis says the new VW models will be added to its fleet over the next 12 months as the company strives to achieve a smaller carbon footprint.
“As a nation we are becoming increasingly conscious of the environment, car emissions and fuel economy, and we are finding that customers are keen to do their bit for the environment wherever possible,” said Avis UK Head of Marketing, Mr Nick Mountfield.
“The Golf BlueMotion models were chosen as part of an ongoing drive to improve the offering of vehicles with low CO2 emissions and high fuel economy for the Avis Eco Collection,
“Due to the initial demand of Eco Collection and customer demand for the current Golf model, we are building on the success by upgrading to the Golf BlueMotion models.
“These Golf models are a desirable package for both Avis and our customers as, despite being extremely efficient and economical, they are conventional to drive and offer superb value and reliability.”
Denoting the most fuel and CO2 efficient model in each Volkswagen range, the BlueMotion badge is now found on Polo, Eos, Golf, Passat and Touareg models in various markets around the globe.
Avis does not currently offer its Eco Collection scheme in Australia.
