2011 Subaru Impreza XV – Geneva 2010

By Alborz Fallah |

The new Subaru Impreza XV, previously known as the Subaru Imprza RV has just been unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motorshow.

The newest addition to the Impreza range will fill the hole left by the RV by providing agile road performance with the recreational styling.

The Subaru Impreza XV is already confirmed for Australia with a release date scheduled for the third quarter of this year.

The model will be powered by the same 2.0 litre four-cylinder horizontally opposed Boxer engine currently used in the Impreza R, RX and RS models.

Subaru Australia says all local XV variants will be tuned for local conditions, for example the Australian delivered XVs sit higher than the European specification cars currently shown in Geneva.

To differentiate the Impreza XV from the standard models there are unique wheel arch extensions, roof rails, grille, and interior trim.

This is an exciting model for us because it will broaden our appeal, particularly with younger audiences looking for a car that combines fun and safety. The current generation Impreza is the best seller of any to date and we’re confident that Impreza XV will add to that success, given the earlier achievements of recreation-themed versions of the car.” Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia said.

No current pricing or specification for Australian models is available. Subaru Australia says details for the Impreza XV will be announced at a later date.

My god, that is even worse than a standard Impreza. So damn ugly…

FHI needs someone to go in there and shake things up a bit.

  • ABMPSV

If Skoda looks bad than what about this!!

  • Yonny

Man, those are some seriously large roof rails…. And those wheel arches make it look massively under-tyred. Overall, not a good looker I think. Anti-spam word was Ssangyong – a coincidence?

  • The Real Car Fanatic

My god, those roof rails look like Helicopter skids!

If anyone has an urge to go postal, the FHI design centre in Hiroshima might be a good start…

  • Bob

Holy CRAP thats ugly. Maybe if it were given a 2″ lift and some Outback rims, it would look like it had a purpose.

    • Baddass

I hope a lift helps out the front end. The standard Impreza has a droopy front end, but this is ten times worse. And that pathetic spoiler on the rear, does it serve any purpose other than to cut off visibility? I had hoped Subaru had washed out the ugly designs with the Liberty, but they are as strong as ever. To think of the clean style of the previous gen Liberty, and then see the current designs almost breaks my heart. Subaru has lost all it’s credibility with me.

Front bumper bar is an amateurish mix of BF FPV, Holden adventra and mid 90′s korean grille.

It looks like it has less approach angle than the standard one??

Seriously, who is this person that designs/approves impreza bumper bars?

Roof rails are – as someone else put it – like helicopter skids

    Awful.

  • JEKYL & HYDE

    PERFECT TIMING…

just as holden stopped making the daewoo viva station wagon…lol

  • Steven

    Any changes to the Forester?

Is anyone at Geneva or are you just fed PR releases via email?

  • john

Why are they still using the 2 litre motor? The 2.5 is far better than the boat anchor that is currently in it.What a joke.

  • Tom

Poor sales of the current Impreza will no doubt continue with this next model for as long as Subaru look to Korean cars for inspiration.

    • davie

You can’t really say the Impreza looks Korean as most Korean cars now have decent styling.

Best to simply say that Impreza styling is so bad that its in a dubious league of its own.

However I acknowledge that The impreza hatch is a clear rip-off of a late 90′s Daewoo Lanos.

Maybe Subaru can look at the recent Polo off-road looking thing and learn a bit from it.

  • Adam

Time to kick out the monkeys who are clearly in charge of Subaru’s design department, or should I say, ‘nausea department’.

  • Matt

As if the regular Impreza wasn’t ugly enough. The front looks like someone has hit it with a blowtorch and just left it to melt.

And all the offroad stuff on it is really just unpainted plastic. Yuck.

  • Shak

So is it meant to be an offorader, or what? Because to me its less an offroader than my SS-V.

  • maximark

I can’t believe Subaru has brought this model to the Geneva show.

  • Subaru lover

Nice! I love it to be honest (am I alone?). Looks a treat.

  • RALLYX

This photo looks shopped, but if it is anything to go by Subaru you’ve done it again. Leones look better than this thing. What is with the hideous roof rails; will someone at Subaru Australia stop ordering Australian Spec. Subaru’s with these mounds of plastic stuck to thier roofs, (look at AU Spec Forester and compare with JDM Forester, JDM looks much nicer without the racks) no one uses them any way.
My old 2003 RV kills this thing in the looks department.

  • qqq

    wow thats bad!!!!!

  • vid_ghost

Homer simpson could of made a better looking car ! :) doh! big “fail”

  • blitzkrieg

    Mr senior
Are you reading these responses,UGLY seems to be the word, kinda like the new Liberty
    UGLY.

  • http://Nanapreza J.A Loebel

I have the 2.0l auto R. 2008 model. It’s a soft ride–good for arthritic necks– good space to load zimmer frames. Rolls well so you can see the road surface on corners Older drivers will be used the transmission as it dates to the 80s. Wonderful noises on start up to remind the driver that are hard of hearing, that the engine is going Senior drivers have no need to worry about getting into trouble with all the power– there isn’t a lot
Mr Fuji, it’s time for some serious sorting– that tranny has to go and put the normally aspirated 2.5l p/plant into the base models. for other places than the US.

    • Anna

Sell it then! Obviously you’re the geriatric that bought it in the first place! Get over yourself…

  • http://www.latestcar.us/ latest car

Not a bad looking ride at all. The lip around the rear window feels a little odd, but whatever. Wish the US would get the diesel and 6 speed soon. I wouldn’t even mind the goofy cladding with the diesel attached to Subaru’s awd system.

  • nicks

this car would only be useful for one purpose if the spirit of tasmania was requiring an anchor it then would serve its purpose then again its too expensive for an anchor.just burn it. if i was in charge of subaru they would all be gone nick senior included for lying ,that people would actually purchase this car like the exiga, wow what a seller that car is

  • boris

for the past 5 yrs subaru have been constantly hitting their cars with the ugly stick.

  • Steely Sub

I’d rather feel it from inside and care not of the rest of the world left out.
Let others have the bad, and I’ll have the bad & the ugly just for myself, wow. Just you wait, mister Higgins.
Take care, beauty and ignorance cost more, when in one single package.

  • Anna

    Love it!
awesome car… very practical… all of you (that is the one person bagging out Subaru logging in as several diffent people who obviously works for another manufacturer) should build a bridge and get over it. Can’t wait to get in one and drive it… Hopefully it will fit the budget!!!
