Ford Falcon BFIII and FG E-Gas models recalled

By Matt Brogan |

Ford has today announced the recall of its BF Mark III and FG Falcon E-Gas sedan, wagon and utility variants for a potential issue with the car’s braking system.

The recall affects only those vehicles fitted with Ford’s E-Gas engine (dedicated factory LPG system) built between October 20, 2008 and September 4, 2009 inclusive (9,072 vehicles).

The recall is necessary because under certain conditions, the vacuum supply from the LPG engine to the brake booster may develop a vacuum leak at the check valve. This could result in reduced power assistance to the vehicle’s service brakes.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by mail. If you have purchased a used vehicle fitting this description, or have changed your address details since purchasing the car new, you may wish to contact Ford Australia’s customer service centre on 13 FORD (13 36 73).

What season is? It is a Recall season.

  • MeestaNob!

Nice to see a recall before the issue gets out of hand, for a change.

  • tekkyy

its not “out of hand” until the media pull together cases and tell the story to public in a largely dramatic manner

  • Shak

For once Ford does the right thing with a recall. At least they didnt pull a toyota.

    • Devil’s Advocate

Exactly, just like the Territory doesn’t have ball joint problems or brake circuit issues on other Falcon variants. They are all made up as part of a hate campaign against Ford by the media/general public… ;-) TVFPIC

      • Tony M

Yeh your right. Just like they didn’t bag the Magna or 380 and then wrote dribble about how they weren’t up to scratch. But now they say these cars were great cars because there isn’t anything wrong with them. Yeh again, your right “They are all made up as part of a hate campaign against Ford by the media/general public…”

        • Benjamin

I see that Toyota have recalled another 128,000 cars due to problems with oil hoses

  • The Oracle’s Teacher

Of course you all ignore the fact that brake problems seem to be an ongoing occurance at Broadmeadows. I can’t believe they can’t get this right. With the launch of the BA the brakes needed machining at 40,000 k’s. Then there was a booster problem on the Territory.

No they haven’t covered anything up, which is a good thing but this shouldn’t have happened at all. It’s not like it’s an all new model.

    • The Oracle

“Then there was a booster problem on the Territory.” What problem, Clueless Aussie? I have never heard of a brake booster problem on Territorys. There was a recall last year for front brake hoses, that’s the only brake issue I recall concerning Territorys. Please provide some details of the supposed booster problem.

      • The Oracle’s Teacher

Go and google “Territory brake booster” and you will find they had a faulty valve in the booster. Who’s clueless now fanboy? You’ll find there are plenty of things in life you haven’t heard of.

Nice to see you didn’t learn from your posts being deleted recently. Clueless indeed. The forum clearly states “no personal attacks”. You’re slow learner. You need to change your name.

        • The Oracle’s Teacher

Who brings you repeated recalls for brake faults? “Ford Of Course”.

        • Tell the truth

Now we know you are making it up. Territory has NOT had a recall for any brake booster problem.

The e-gas Falcons have had a booster valve problem – the supplier has admitted fault and advised Ford to recall thier (the supplier’s) faulty parts.

        • The Oracle

Well Clueless, I followed your suggestion and as I suspected, it was a waste of time. Google has no references to Territory brake booster issues, it is only LPG Falcons and it is an extension of a 2009 recall, based upon the advice of Ford’s supplier. There are no references to BA disc issues either, just normal machining that every car requires. You just make up these things. Who’s Clueless? It would appear that you are.

PS We all know that you are really the blogger formerly known as “Callous (Clueless) Aussie. You need to change your name.

PPS I haven’t had any posts deleted. You’re just making that up that as well.

PPPS What personal attacks? I don’t consider asking you to justify a statement is a personal attack. You’re too sensitive.

          • The Oracle’s Teacher

Thanks for letting me know you went and checked. I’m $20 better off for it ;) and laughing so much it hurts. Oh and you did get 3 posts pulled down for personal attacks. So don’t talk s**t!!

Now go look again. I can’t link to here as it is against the forum rules, yet you’re so clueless you ask people to provide a link! Nice to see you found another ford brand with brake booster problems though. Don’t forget to add the mondeo to that list.

          • The Oracle

Hello Clueless Aussie, I am pleased that you so easily amused. Please send me my half of the $20 via Car Advice.

I am also pleased that you admit that you made up the statement about the Territory brake booster and that you conveniently can’t find any references. PLenty of people have posted links and they haven’t been removed. You could always tell me the name of the site anyway. But of course, that is difficult to do when it is only a product of your imagination. I won’t bother checking again or the spurious reference to the Mondeo as I can only assume you are making that up as well. We all know you have form on this.
On the Fiesta Econetic blog you made references to the rollover strength of Falcons, again with no supporting evidence. How about providing some or have you just made that up as well?

PS I’m flattered you take such an interest in my work. Tell me which post of mine have been removed because I am sure that there have been none and that you have made that up as well.

PPS You said “Nice to see you found another ford brand with brake booster problems” Your imagining this too as I never made any statement like that.

          • The Oracle’s Teacher

            Are you ok?

          • The Oracle

Yes, never better. Thanks for asking. And you, are you feeling better now?

  • Andrew M

CA, this recall was issued last year some time, this is a little slow. I would guess it was issued in september as models after that arent affected.
Looks like they fixed the production issue straight away and issued the recall at the same time.
I remember reading this some time ago.

I am however interested as to why its only an issue on the LPG motor….
Something to do with different revs???? or just a faulty batch of parts??

Weird that it only affects 3rd series BF and on, what did they change??
Yeah its got to be a faulty batch…..

    • Minnow

The vacuum check valve is the little valve on the actual brake booster. To test it is simple, just connect a hose to the valve and blow into it. If air passes through, it needs replacing.

    • dan

Im not 100% sure but my guess is because the LPG engines backfire and damage the one way vaccum valve.
If this valve is damaged it will effect the brake booster assistance.

      • Andrew M

        Ah ha, the backfire…..
Yep that makes sense. I am still left wandering as to why it wouldnt affect earlier models

  • Frenchie

This is the same issue Andrew different recall numbers. An additional 9000 vehicles.

    • Andrew M

      what was the original???
I remember the original recall being for the same years (end of BF, start of FG)

      • Devil’s Advocate
      • The Oracle

Apparently the supplier got back to Ford and said there were more faulty valves supplied than originally advised and so Ford had to extend the recall. It is not a new issue.

        • The Oracle’s Teacher

Not new but ongoing like so many other issues with Ford’s local product.

Here’s a cut and paste from a disgruntled Territory owner.

“I wish to bring to all, the faults with my wife’s Territory and Fords failure to make good:
          1. the brakes have squealed since day 1, the dealer and Ford have yet to solve
          2. the drivers window has fallen out 6 times now, often jamming the door in the open mode
          3. the passenger window has jammed shut, and latter fallen out
          4. the reversing sensor jams on when you use the tow bar, has to be reset by dealer and once you tow it jams on again
          5. the lock system on the keypad stops working
          6. both front door trims keep falling out
          7. the rex TV system has been replaced several times
          8. the sat nav system has had to be replaced
          9. external trim fell off
          10. rear hatch jams open unable to latch it closed
          11. wiper motor stopped working and had to be replaced
          12. rear panel next to glass window fell apart.
The car is used as daily transport by my wife. The car has done NO off road or hard work.” I Robson, Adelaide SA

          • The Oracle

So what? One unsubstantiated whinger is hardly a representative sample. Name any vehicle and I am sure that I could find something similar written about it. This includes you precious Hyundais and Kias too. Remember the Carnival engine? The Excel front suspension cracks?

  • Marcoz

    2010….the new decade…of recalls :(

  • Terry 1

To; THe oracles Teacher……..did it take long for you to make it all up ? You are obviously a Toyota lover or a paid GM bogan. My Territory has done 78,000k and has none of the problems you listed. I had a brake squeal problem at 15000k and it was fixed, and a lose tailgate latch which was fixed. This car has been fantastic. It is 5 years old and it is still the best SUV in its class. Mine has been on all sorts of roads in all sorts of conditions and never let me down. I cant wait until the new model comes out because I will be first in line. I have also heard of a rusty tailgate problem and I have yet to see one. I have looked at plenty of Terrys in car yards trying to find one….havent seen one yet, mine hasnt any.

    • Shak

Well obviously many owners would think otherwise. I have seen for months on End mail coming into the Sunday and Saturday Telegraph about Tezza and Falcon problems. Now while yours may not have a problem, does that mean all of them dont. Its the same thing with the Commodore battery issues. I’ve had one since 2006, and not a single thing has gone wrong, but that doesn’t mean that it wont. If you maintain your car well, as you have obviously done it will go on for 10 years.

      • The Oracle’s Teacher

Thanks for some honest perspective Shak. Clearly the ford mob can’t muster up any of it. Terry 1 take one of those lines I quoted and google it and it will send you straight to the forum it came from. While you’re there read down the list of th BA falcon owners too with endless complaints.

Oh and I am hardly a holden bogan. I bought a brand spanking VU series 2 ute some years back and will never buy another locally produced car. They are rubbish. I have also been around long enough to listen to numerous “previous owners” of local cars. it not so much that large cars are out of favour. It’s more that our local manufacturers are. People soon get sick of things falling off their cars. That window collapse issue was fairly common in territories.

Google Ford territory rust while you’re looking. It may save you a shed load of money down the track. The love of local cars qualifies you as a bogan by the way.
