Nissan Micra replacement to appear at Geneva Motor Show

By Matt Brogan |

Nissan has today confirmed that its next-generation Micra will appear at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.

Set to replace the existing model, which has been around in most markets since 2003, the new Nissan Micra will take on the likes of the Honda Jazz, Mazda 2 and Ford Fiesta.

The new Micra will be the first from the Nissan stable to ride on the company’s all-new V platform, which will also feature under the next-generation Renault Clio.

Sales will commence in Thailand immediately following the Geneva Motor Show with European sales expected to follow by Q3 this year.

US and Australian sales are not expected until the 2012 model year (MY12) begins production in late 2011.

I think they need to rename it, the Micra name has a image of cheap!

      I agree.

So it’ll be on sale in Thailand & Europe in 2010, but not in Oz until 2012? WTF?

So they’re going to keep selling the old model here until then??? I’d love to know the rational behind this one…

It looks far more promising than the current cutesy front, ugly backed Micra

I really hope the make a hot version, nissan doesn’t make a hot hatch, they made that new 1.6 DIGT engine 190hp 240nm, 190hp on a 940kg body = POCKET ROCKET, baby gtr

Geez, I wonder what the chances are that it will come out with those massive wheels. Really annoys me when car companies promote their concepts like that, when it won’t be anything like it when it comes to production.

Yeah, but then I’m sure you’d complain if you then had to pay $25,000 for a Micra with 20″ alloys and suitable tyres. If they did build it with those wheels would you actually buy it?

I have ordered an amsterdam orange one within Australia, already have some 17″ black rims and am Ipod ready :D LOVE the new shape and the price is great for a brand new car.. From driving big Commodores most of my driving life, getting rid or a brand new Getz and hotting up old school cars, I can’t wait to have a run around that looks good and will be RELIABLE!

You don’t really feel the novelty after Nissan disappointingly decided to continue with a 4-speed auto. It’s nothing as flashy as a Fiesta or Jazz versatile either. Toyota will have to come up with an attractive Yaris soon.
