Ford Ranger Raptor all but confirmed for Australia

The Ford Ranger Raptor is taking shape, with CarAdvice reader Mark sending in these shots of the vehicle testing on public roads.

After we brought you exclusive first photos of Ford's Ranger Raptor and initial exclusive details of the trademark registration, Ford has now taken one of its first prototype vehicles out for public testing.

As we revealed last time, the Ranger Raptor runs on a new variant of the T6 platform. While Australia will get an update to the current PXII Ranger either late this year or early next year, we don't expect to see the Ranger Raptor until 2019.

This new platform will feature rear disc brakes and what appears to be a variation of the Everest's Watt's linkage rear suspension, effectively eliminating leaf springs in favour of handling.

An increased ride height appears to also be in order, plus larger tyres with flared wheel arches.

Off-road drivers will love the exposed tow hooks — Jeep Trailhawk style — which will help recover the beast when it gets stuck.

Ford's Victorian proving ground is doing a big chunk of engineering work for both the Asia Pacific and North American market Ranger, with work gradually ramping up toward further official announcements next year.
