The Seat Arona small SUV has been leaked online this week, giving a first look at the Spanish company’s rival to the Nissan Juke, which is set to debut in the coming months.

Images published by MQB-Coding & Retrofit show the stylish crossover in silver, looking very much like a baby version of the larger AtecaSeat’s twin-under-the-skin to the Volkswagen Tiguan.

Britain’s Autocar reports that the new SUV will share its Volkswagen Group MQB A0 platform as the upcoming Seat Ibiza and Volkswagen Polo, meaning it will likely have a lot in common with the Audi Q2 and upcoming Volkswagen T-Roc.

The report adds that Seat has confirmed the new model will go on sale in Europe and the UK in December this year.

In terms of powertrains, the Arona will utilise most if not all of the engines available in the related Ibiza hatch, meaning a range of three- and four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines will be offered.

Named after a city on the Spanish island of Tenerife and a town on Lake Maggiore in Italy, the Seat Arona will compete with the likes of the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur.

Australia

While it’s unlikely we’ll see any Seat models in Australia anytime soon, the Seat Arona previews what’s to come from the forthcoming Volkswagen T-Roc (below) in terms of powertrains and technology.

The new-generation Polo hatchback is due to be revealed in June, while the T-Roc is set to be revealed by year’s end.

However, Volkswagen’s small SUV likely won’t arrive Down Under until 2019, due to the high demand globally for the new model.
