2003 Ford Falcon Futura Warranty Complaint

Name: Stephen Smith
Car Make: Ford
Car Model: Falcon Futura
Year of Manufacture: 2003

Warranty Complaint:
Took car into dealership whilst under warranty with jerky forward and reverse gear selection (Auto Trans). Was told within Ford specifications, no problem.

11 months later, problem got worse and transmission fluid was found in expansion tank. Took car back and dealer advised me to ring Customer Response centre who told me car is not covered by warranty but they will pay for a new radiator. I fought tooth and nail and got CRC to pay 50% of repair. Dealer refused to help with the rest. It cost me $1700.

  • Me.

Why the radiator? I thought is was the gearbox that had the problem.

I “had” an 03 XR6 Turbo. Around 5000km it blew a rubber water hose (small joit hose between pipes. Turned out that the transmission oil cooler line is brazed inside the radiator (down the bottom.) Shitty braze failed. When operating, tranny oil pressure forced fluid in to engine coolant. Worse when you stop engine – residual pressure still in radiator forces water in to tranny -along with shitty bits of brazing slag.

I “tried to tell them tranny was stuffed but after three tranny rebuilds (3 months) which did not last 10 km – and threats to Ford – I got a new tranny. Be sure to insist on all new hoses as tranny fluid is deadly on them. (Also rotted out heater hoses as well. You should also get a new expansion tank – I did. Continuing lousy dealer service resulted in me trading in on a “Hyundai” 6 months later. You would not believe the difference in service! Son had same experience in service with a new XR8 ute – he has now swapped to Nissan. No wonder Ford are up the creek with falcon these days.

That is why you buy a Manual – no problems.
