Kia K9 Artist Illustration

By Alborz Fallah |

With Hyundai kicking so many goals with the Hyundai Genesis, sister company Kia is looking at entering the luxury sports sedan segment with this beautiful car, the Kia K9.

Kia’s chief designer Peter Schreyer is said to have unveiled a sketch of what is currently only being referred to as K9 in Seoul a few weeks ago. Our graphic artists have been hard at work and put together the above illustration of what the car may look like. The original sketch can be found below:

Peter Schreyer has already been responsible for designing the gorgeous Kia Cerato and Sorento but he is perhaps best known for designing the original Audi TT.

Some say Schreyer has compared the K9s design to that of the Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series. As well as a sport luxury car, Kia also intends to produce a luxury sedan currently codenamed the CH for some time in 2011 (based on Hyundai’s Genesis sedan).

Little is know about the K9 or CH but we suspect they will be powered by a variety of engines including a petrol V8. Some reports suggest It may even come with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Looks good, but some how misses the mark as far as looking like a concept. This is closer to what you would expect from the production model. Love the headlights, they look great and I think they suit the car beautifully. Need the guards pumped out a lttle more like the original drawing.

Oh crap they were serious about that drawing!? Eeew…

And hopefully they designed it off the current A8 because the new one is FUGLY!!!

  • Family Guy

    K9? I hope it’s not a dog.

Bad name, even for a concept. You may as well call it the Labrador.

  • milobob

better not look like a CH lancer… seeing how the codename is the same :S

That is one mean looking face. I mean it is bada$$!!!

Mazda take note: Get rid of the fugly goofy grin and start making faces with a bit of agression in them like this!

    I love it!

First thing I thought was that it was a MK6 Golf GTI which had been stretched with one of those novelty software face-stretcher programs

  • Shak

It looks good for a KIA

If this design is luxury sedan, it is a fail.
if this design is a sports sedan, it is not bad.
if this design is a next optima/magentis, it is acceptable.

If we put the H logo in the grille, It will look good as a next Generation Honda Accord!!

  • The Gatekeeper

It looks a lot like the new SAAB 9-5 which might never hit the market if GM can’t find a buyer. How about let KIA buy SAAB?

KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS MACHINE IS BEING BUILT ON THE SAME PLATFORM AS THE GENESIS SEDAN. ALSO KEEP IN MIND THAT IT SHOULD BE AVAILABLE WITH HYUNDAI’S 358 BHP TAU V8 AND A SUPER-LUXE, DRIVER ORIENTED INTERIOR. IF ALL OF THAT IS TRUE…, AND IT STILL COSTS NEARLY TEN GRAND LESS THAN BAVARIA’S 550i, IT’S GOING TO ROCK THE PERFORMANCE SEDAN MARKET, VERY VERY HARD.
IMMO, ITS ONLY REAL COMPETITION IS GOING TO BE THE HOLDEN COMMODORE SSV; SOON-TO BE CHEVROLET CAPRICE SS, ALONG WITH ITS MALOO-EL CAMINO SIBLING. AND WITH STATION WAGONS NOW GROWING IN POPULARITY HERE IN THE STATES, WE MAY EVEN GET THE SPORT WAGON AS WELL. I CERTAINLY HOPE SO. FORD’S ALREADY GOT YOUR FALCON IN-MARKET HERE BADGED AS THE TAURUS AND TAURUS SHO. PLUS, DERICK KUZACK, IS MOVING HEAVEN AND EARTH, TRYING TO GET THE SUPER PUSUIT HERE AS WELL. I CAN EVEN SEE WHERE WE YANKS WILL BE BUYING MORE OF YOUR CARS THAN YOU DO BY THE END OF 2011. WHEN 300-MILLION WALLETS GET OPENED WIDE, WE TEND TO BUY A HECK OF A LOT OF IRON. WE COULD WELL BE ENTERING THE AUSTRALIAN AGE. WE TEND TO BE A VERY GOOD TRADING PARTNER. G’DAY!
