Potential buyers of the Hyundai Elantra Elite will now be able to option their cars with an electronic sunroof.

The Hyundai Elantra Elite is the mid-spec model in the range, and previously was not available with an opening glass roof.

The electric roof will be offered at an option cost of $2000. That would push the price of a 2017 Hyundai Elantra Elite to $28,990 plus on-road costs.

The non-sunroof-equipped, auto-only Elite model is now priced from $26,990 plus on-roads, up $500 compared to when the car launch.

Both the Elite and the Active models (now from $21,950 plus on-road costs – up $460) are powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

The Active price listed above is for the six-speed manual, while a six-speed auto is also available, at $24,250.

Many small car competitors only offer sunroofs on their high-end variants, and they remain unavailable as options on lower-tier cars.

Indeed, the newly added Hyundai Elantra SR comes with a standard sunroof, lots of sporty extras, revised suspension and steering, a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a choice of a six-speed manual ($28,990 plus on-road costs) or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic ($31,290).
