GGR launches 275kW Mk2 Ford Focus RS

November 24, 2009 by George Skentzos

With 224kW on tap, the Ford Focus RS is already one of the world’s most powerful front-drive hot hatches, although that hasn’t stopped tuning specialist Graham Goode Racing Ltd (GGR) from adding a few extra ponies.

The GGR RS370FR Focus RS upgrade is a fully warranted, independently validated high performance upgrade package for the Mk2 Ford Focus RS, pushing peak power to almost 275kW.

Surprisingly, achieving this enormous power figure required no internal modifications to the 2.5-litre, five cylinder turbocharged engine.

The GGR RS370FR package includes a carbon fibre cold air induction package, larger intercooler with alloy air diverter plates, larger injectors, silicone boost hoses, larger exhaust turbo front pipe and catalyst section and an ECU remap using Superchip’s Bluefin and firmware upgrade.

The peak power figure of 275kW at 6383rpm is a 22 per cent increase while peak torque jumps from 410Nm to 460Nm.

“In our opinion, this is the optimum power and torque output for the car,” says GGR’s Technical Manager Alastair Mayne, “because even with the sophisticated Revoknuckle front suspension and Quaife ATB differential, gaining sufficient traction can be a problem. Bearing that in mind, we’ve made a conscious policy decision to limit the engine’s torque, although there’s certainly more to come from the motor if we wanted it,” Mayne continues, “because the RS370FR package is running relatively low levels of boost.”

The complete GGR RS370FR performance upgrade is priced at £3,750.00 or A$6,750.00 and is covered by Graham Goode Racing’s own comprehensive 12 month / 30,000 mile breakdown warranty.

Damn, Its like putting an XR6 Turbo engine into a shoe. If it can get traction, imagine its 0-100 time.

Revo Knuckle does kurb torque steer but it can’t eliminate it. I have read many reviews on the stock RS and the journos were mostly impressed with how little torque steer their was, however it still existed which only required a minor steering correction. The power is mighty impressive but I think 460nm of torque is a ludicrous amount too have channeled through the front wheels only. Asking the wheels too do both the steering and driving is a big ask especially with 275kw/460nm too play with!

I reckon half the fun when driving a new Focus RS WOULD be the ballistic front wheel power and white knuckle ride you’d get when twisting and turning it through the bends..

      Yanzo,

GGR Are a UK Tuning house for all things Euro Ford. They Tune Fiesta ST’s, Focus ST’s not to mention now the RS. Mountune and GGR are the two big Tuners for Ford in the UK.
A friend of mine visited their workshop in England not long ago.
They also make a lot of their own components. The equivalent of Herrod Motorsport here in Australia.
Pays to do a little research before getting on the soapbox ;)

Nothing like a local talking through his trumpet, knowing nothing about vehicle markets and tuning marekts in other countries.

Those soapboxes must be going cheap on Ebay if anyone can throw in an unqualified comment now…

If this thing was AWD, it would eat the R32 and S3. Insane.

Not only would it own them, but they could release more of the power and torque that they have hidden away.

I know these are meant to be the best handling FWD, but I reckon these would run out the door if they didnt have the FWD stigma
