Bugatti Veyron lagoon crash aftermath gallery

By George Skentzos |

With the crash and recovery efforts both captured on film, it was only a matter of time before the aftermath of the Veyron plunging into the lagoon found its way onto the web.

Aside from sustaining heavy water damage, the black-on-silver Veyron appears to have come off relatively unscathed with only minor panel damage.

Although the quad-turbocharged W16 engine may be a write-off, with earlier reports suggesting it burbled like an outboard motor before finally spluttering to a halt 15 minutes later.

Serves him right for not paying attention. But why oh why did the beautiful Veyron have to recieve the punishment

  • GTR

This makes me sick. :( Poor veyron.

  • Robin Graves

This whole scenario stinks of a scam. The guy owns a wrecked supercar business, how more dodgy could it get?

    • Marcoz

I 2nd that robin, it just doesnt make much sense, and when you watch the video over an over he really never ever attempts to stop. whether he was looking down the whole time or just plain insurance job of some kind..
i think we will here much more to the story in the very near future…

      • NacaYoda

        Two scenarios:

#1. Veyron owner needs cash badly. Drives car into drink in controlled crash to get insurance money. (Explains why video got pulled from YouTube by request).

#2. Car repair business needs work desperately, pays Veyron owner to “have an accident” so they can “restore” this car (paid for by insurance company). Keeps them busy and they make a profit. Nice way to get through a (GFC) lull in business. … This might also explain the amazing coincidence of the video footage – excellent for future marketing in exotic crash repair services. Though if it is a fraud, this may backfire in a very big way.

Unless there was a hooker actually in the car at the time of the accident, I think one of the above two options are fairly likely.

Like I said, Bugatti should hire a hit man

  • Martin

    Such a shame.

    • Martin

I was far more upset over the DBS crashing in Italy though.

  • Tom21

If this was a McLaren F1 id care, but sadly the Veyron has become the multi millionare douche mobile.

I’ll take it off your hands if you want to get rid of it for a reasonable price considering its current state!

  • UMWAHT

can’t they like do an engine replacement or something

    • Tael

No way in hell Volkswagen will give him another W16

      • Matt

They have to supply parts for the car so if it needs an engine they HAVE to supply one

  • Jazrod

This makes me a saaaad Panda! =[

  • Yanzo

you need to see the video of it actually going into the water. some yank is like see that… that’s gonna be my car one day. what is it… i think it’s a lambo man (i lmao at this point) then the car went into the water

  • Matt

I highly doubt it will be a write off of any sort, the cost of repairs needs to be a hell of a lot for it to be cheaper for insurance to payout the owner than to repair it. They will repair the damage and rebuild the engine, will cost a bit but not as much as the insured value.

    • Reckless1

      Bloke, you have no idea.

The car was in salt water up to the dashboard. The engine has ingested salt water and has blown up.

The car is now baking in a yard, and has not had the salt water rinsed out of it, making absolutely sure that all the wiring, pcbs, switches, instruments, and so on are buggered, even if they weren’t already.

There is no chance this can be repaired. The panels might be salvaged for another moron that has a small prang.

        Bloke, you have no idea.

id have a crack at getting it back on the road, thats for sure. it would be VERY hard to actually write off one of these. just needs to be pulled apart, cleaned up, and replace any things that are unrepairable. ive seen people restore completley rusted out GT falcon and monaro shells.. just costs money. for this car, even if that cost 1million AUD itd be worth it.

hell, id love to have it just to polish up and look at..!

        • toxic_horse

agreed, all the carbon fibre will be fine.
a lot of the components will be fine.
          the interior will clean up.
no way the repaire bill would be over a million dollars.

“Although the quad-turbocharged W16 engine may be a write-off, with earlier reports suggesting it burbled like an outboard motor before finally spluttering to a halt 15 minutes later.”

driving it into the river may have been an accident, but anyone who leaves any motor – let alone a rediculously high-tech one – running in the water afterwards is an absolute IDIOT.
    what a shame.

  • Cupid Stunt

Funny as. Seen the Video. It’s like he fell asleep at the wheel. Pity…a great car wrecked by a loon.

  • Theo

    One fugly car…even when new.

    • lazybones

Agreed its the ugly sister of all supercars

  • lazybones

“Boss, its the floor mat man. The car just accelerated all on its own!!”

A comment on Youtube claims the driver hit a bird, but i couldn’t see any such thing on the video.

  • http://carz.com/ Carz

This is definitely a disaster…Bugatti Veyron is such an awesome car and it’s a shame this could happen to this car. Very unlucky Bugatti and very lucky lagoon to have graced its presence. Poor guy…I’m pretty sure he’d be crying his heart out after this.

  • aLLaNNa1

Just give it a good polishing and it will be fine…as a garden sculpture in my backyard…LoL.

  • http://skyline The Salesman

Give it to Clarkson so he can turn it into his next speed boat.

  • davie

In the words of someone else:

    “That’ll buff out”

  • Reality Check

    “Wax On, Wax Off”

This reeks of an insurance fraud and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the insurance company refused to pay out due to reckless endangerment.. All insurance contracts have clauses requiring you to take whatever action is necessary to minimise damage, (clearly this would include switching off the engine).

This apparent fraud will almost certainly backfire, leaving an owner allready reeling from the GFC, in even deeper doggy doo’s.
