New Generation Volkswagen Golf Spyshots

The sixth generation Volkswagen Golf has been caught testing in the Californian desert in the last few days. Worldcarfans managed to catch both the 3-door and 5-door variants.

From what we can gather, Volkswagen are in a slight dilemma, although the Golf has been a fantastic seller for the German manufacturer, the current model has been criticized for its slow manufacturing times and long delays.

The new Generation Golf is rumoured to have a significantly smaller manufacturing time, we just hope it isn’t at the expense of quality and reliability.

In an article we published earlier this year, Volkswagen was listed as the least profitable manufacturer (at a mere $535 AUD per car). The move to change the production methods of the next-generation Golf may be directly linked to this.

Current information points to a late 2008 European launch for the next generation Golf. We should expect the car in early to mid 2009.

    Primo!

“isn’t at the expense of quality”

Errrrr no, the South African Golfs sold in Oz and around the world are NOT of premium or quailty that they should be.

Know a few who have Golfs and had *issues* with poor workmanship

    Cheers

    F-0

    PS/ Uwant qaulity buy Japanese!

hm VW is still ranked as one of the most reliable brands. I think the SA cars in general, VW/BMW etc are not usually of the highest quality, I’ve read some reports that the chinese made VWs are actually of higher quality than the SA ones!

After discovering that VW’s were made in SA, I sort of got turned off by that, and that report published a few months ago in Drive (and I think a mention was made here) about J.D Power conducting a survey on reliability of a car 12-24-36 months later.

Although the Ford Focus seemed like a nice, solid car. The seats need drastic re-design.

My bro was involved with the importer of VWs from SA and reckons they are the worst. Had to get technicians out from SA to fix many VWs. However as the owner of a Mexican made VW (Jetta), I have found the quality brilliant. Certainly better than any Holden or Mitsu I’ve owned. Only problem in the year and half I’ve had was an annoying alarm going off saying the handbrake was on (when it wasn’t) which was fixed in 10 or so mins. Also the switch for electric window fell into door. Otherwise brilliant quality. Definitely buy another VW – but not from SA!!!

Whinge on those who aspire to having one… that is all that I can read above…. my Golf Diesel purchased in Australia is magnificent… it was built in a VW factory that has standards and that shows. Handles like a sports car. Pulls up the steepest hill in town leaving heavy 4WDs for dead. Runs on the smell of an oily rag. Miles better than anything Japanese I have ever owned. Value for money is way ahead. And the more I drive, the more happy Golf owners I meet. I just hope the Wallabies can beat the Boks in the Rugby cos they have shown capability in car manufacture when provided German techonology and training.
