2012 Lamborghini Murcielago replacement – first pic

By Matt Brogan |

Meet the car that is set to replace the Murcielago sometime in 2012. This first rendering of the next Lamborghini has today been released on the web – though has yet to be given a name.

With a carbon fibre body over an aluminium spaceframe chassis this new model will be lighter than the car it replaces while also promising good looks and breath taking performance.

The new wider, longer Lambo will most likely be powered by a 6.0-litre V12 unit developing around 520kW, coupled to an all-wheel drive arrangement, to see 0-100km/h times just north of three seconds.

It’s also believed this image could be a hint at the styling cues expected of the brand’s first-ever hybrid due in 2015.

Looks like a cross of Murcielago and Reventon, can’t wait to see official pics of higher resolution, looks to be a great looking car.

  • RdS

..same headlight-bonnet treatment as the new ferrari..? its nice though.. :)

  • NacaYoda

Wider? Are they serious?! Do they realise the lanes on our public roads aren’t going to be wdiened for this release?

    • Yanzo

hahahaha when people see that in their review mirror they should give way to you anyway

    • DG

think they may need to put one of those yellow WIDE LOAD signs on it like the big semis! HOT!

  • Carfanatic

    Lighter and more powerful? Whoa!

  • Delusional

agree that is a very wide looking lambo. but still a very good looking car *thumbs up*

  • Shak

Naca Yoda im with you. Our public roads are already appalling and in Sydney they are very narrow. This pretty little thing would get all scratched up and we would wnat that now would we. Lambo have to get a new design language and not just rip bits off the reventon and stick them on old models.

  • crouchy

Those headlights automatically threw me to the Ferrari Italia…

  • NacaYoda

Don’t get me wrong, I think this baby is jawdroppingly gorgeous. I want, I want. But it seats 2 people, right? How wide does it need to be?

It has a certain “I was a Hummer, but I got ‘redesigned slightly’ when a Harrier Jet landed on my roof” kinda look to it. Far from subtle ;)

  • Carfanatic

Hmmm, the article says new wider , longer Lambo, but I’ve been hearing they will shorten the overhangs and thus reduce the length of the vehicle. Can CA confrim it will be longer?

  • Al Juraj

What’s the point of making a supercar even bigger? Aren’t they supposed to be small and lightweight? The current Murcielago is quite huge already. Besides, it only seats two. Is the engine too big necessiating the increase in size?

  • Alex

Looks good, but too much like the Murcielago. I wish they’d give us something really new. I have no problems with this, but I am quite underwhelmed and the entire point of a Lamborghini is to be well and truly overwhelmed.

  • zahmad

That’s why you should all know Ferrari do thinks better, and if you want something Lamborghini like, go get an Audi R8…

  • c3vzn

Judging by you guys’ comments, it seems as if you think it’s an official rendering. It is a just fan who took an Estoque and modified it a bit..

  • K

How about attributing the source of the information and the rendering Matt?

  • Wheelnut®™

IMHO Both Lamborghini and Ferrari are starting to look so much like one another with similar power similar features etc that it detracts somewhat from the exclusivity of the Italian dream machines

Which is why I’d prefer a Gumpert a Konigsiegg or wait til the new McLaren is released
when youre spending that much dosh you’d want something that is unique something that stands out

  • matt

to those people complaining about it being too wide, get over it, its a lambo, a supercar, its not supposed to be practical, if it was supposed to be practical it would have a 2 litre 4 cylinder engine, not a massive v12, the whole appeal of a lamborghini is the sheer lunacy and theatre of it all

    • DDH

I agree, its a LAMBO!!! Its meant to be mental and ridiculous and have enormous presence – I don’t think they go “lets make our new flagship model narrower and have more compliant suspension and better vision through the rear window because Australia has crap roads and low speed limits”.

  • matt

by the way, it looks brilliant, a fantastic mix of beauty, elegance and sheer aggression

  • rola

Looks like this is an image of the estoque concept and the current Murcielago photoshopped together. Does anyone else notice that???

  • rola

even has same wheels as estoque concept…..

  • Josh

I think It is a really nice ride! Designing wide models is a part of Lamborghini. We should respect the way they design their vehicles. Many people think wider cars are awsome! Also, Im sure most people would want their car to be atleast a little roomy, just another advantage of the new Murceilago. I mean, wouldn’t you want to drive comfortably? I think it’s really cool how they could make a car that much more powerful, and that much more fuel efficient at the same time! Although, I still think they really should have made the Estoque sedan a production model; I’d love my family car to be a Lamborghini! But, over all, this is definetely my dream car!!!!!!

  • lambo 69

The ferrari italia head lights do look simaler to theas but if you notice the ferrari ha a bit longer and more narrow shape to it and sit a little higher up on the car but yes very much alike but hell yea i like the new lambo

  • Tyler

this is nothing but a crossover between the current Murcielago and the Estoque concept. Lamborghini has not even officially announced that the Murcielago will be replaced.
