2010 Hyundai Sonata to be unveiled next week
As rumours fly around the web, Hyundai has confirmed to CarAdvice this morning that it is preparing to unveil its Sonata replacement, codenamed YF, next Thursday the 10th of September.
Powered by a 2.0-litre Theta-II four-cylinder petrol engine and mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission the fluid coupe-like sedan will deliver a combined fuel economy figure of just 7.8-litres per 100km on the combined cycle - the highest fuel economy in its segment in Korea.
The rendering preview photos we've received this morning show a coupe like body style and exudes a dynamic image. The front side communicates an image of strength through a wide radiator grille and sharp-edged headlamps.
The flowing coupe-like lines of the YF express Hyundai’s “fluidic sculpture” design language, a new design direction that will play a pivotal role in enhancing the brand - first seen in the ix35 compact SUV launched last month in South Korea.
Hyundai is confident that the new YF, equipped with the company's latest technologies, will continue the long string of global successes earned by the NF Sonata over the years.
Since the launch of the very first generation Sonata in October 1985 in Korea, 4.45 million units of Sonata have been sold worldwide. In 2004, Sonata earned the highest ranking in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Survey in the Entry Midsize Car category.
“The all-new YF sedan is a car we very excited about,” said Kevin McCann, Hyundai’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “The YF promises outstanding fuel economy combined with cutting edge looks and we are confident that the car will attract customers seeking style and sophistication to the Hyundai brand.”
Australian specification and performance figures will be released closer to the local launch next year.
