UK built Civic Type R exported to Japan
August 7, 2009 by Matt Brogan
The British-built Civic Type R will be exported to the brand’s homeland of Japan from next year.
The highly acclaimed 3-door hot hatch, manufactured at Honda’s plant in Swindon, is to be shipped to Japan where it will go on sale during 2010.
The model will be called the Type R EURO, to distinguish it from the Japanese-spec 4-door Civic Type R saloon, and will be sold in limited numbers.
Japan is the third country outside Europe to import this high-revving hot hatch with the red ‘H’ badge, following Australia and South Africa.
The demand for the UK-produced car in Honda’s domestic market is testament to the dedication and skill of Associates at Honda’s Swindon factory – the only production facility in the world that builds the Civic Type R 3-door.
Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) also builds the 5-door Civic, Civic Type S and CR-V for Europe and will start production of the Jazz for Europe, from this Autumn.

i saw them do a review on this car on top gear. the older version type r was faster. jeremy was like “guess howmuch horsepower/ kilowats it has more then the previous model… 1…” the only thing better about it is it’s looks
Honda UK has been exporting cars back to Japan for years with the last model Civic.
Somebody tell Honda Australia that this is happening, maybe then we will get both versions as well. I agree that the UK version looks a million bucks, but all reports are that the Japanese version is a better drive, and more spiritually tied to the old-school R’s
Yanzo, while I really do find JC entertaining, I don’t really take his review 100%.
The EP3R (the prev gen type R) and the FN2 R (current gen type R) have both been tested on Dyno and EP3R constantly gets 120-125 kilowatt on the wheels while FN2 R gets 140-145 kilowatt. While the engine might be mostly the same, they might have improved power delivery to the road resulting in this. What might also have changed is the rules for power rating.
As for him driving the car and understeer, he might not have turned VSA off as I didn’t see flashing orange light on the dashboard. VSA in type R cuts off power and prevents oversteer.
I guess this will flop as according to a lot of posters on this website no-one will buy this cos it’s British…
Hey fishy, love the comment, I agree with your sentiments, there are some ignorant tools that submit to this web-site.
I suppose falcodore drivers just dont get it.
I don’t get it. Didn’t Japan already have the Type R Hatch?
Rooster, the anti-euro brigade are typically toyo tuggers.
Funny this has a torsion beam rear suspension as compared to the independent setup of a VTi sedan you can buy off the shelf.
Not sure why you’d buy this over the superior sedan model?
