Brilliance BS4 set for EU market

By Matt Brogan |

Brilliance – China’s eighth largest vehicle manufacturer – will soon begin shipping a version of its BS4 wagon to Europe.

The BS4 wagon will be the brand’s third model to go on sale in the European market following the BS4 and BS6 sedan range which have been available since late 2007.

Although the company was tight lipped about how many units would be exported, it did say that it expects to pass all European regulations – including the NCAP crash rating scheme* – by the end of this year.

“We are going through regulatory procedures currently in Europe trying to get our BS4 wagon into the market,” said a Brilliance executive in a statement.

Official pricing has not been released yet but we expect around AUD$29,000 if sedan pricing is anything to go by.

*Brilliance expects the BS4 wagon to achieve a three star NCAP rating.

It actually looks quite nice but are they kidding themselves? 3 star NCAP rating?
No matter how cheap this car is, a lot of cars are now standard with 5 star ratings

  • Big Oil

BS4…that is a very unfortunate name. Hopefully it sells well outside of English speaking markets.

Three star NCAP rating? Not nearly good enough! In fact it’s shocking. You can still get killed in a five star car, I wouldn’t spend that much on a car that is not all that safe and is surely lacking in quality.
It looks OK though. It looks like a cross between the the E Class Estate, 5 Series Touring and the Skoda Octavia. But considering a Skoda Octavia estate would cost about the same, I think you’d be mad.
I don’t know why they are even bothering with Europe. This is a continent where they sell more BMWs and Volkswagens every year than they do Toyotas. We don’t want things called Brilliance. And what were they thinking calling them all BS?

  • Golfschwein

It looks so good, yet crashes so poorly.

I’ve learned to put names like Brilliance and Superb into some context. Mercedes still does Elegance, which is enough to make me buy a Classic, and Holden did generations of cars named Specials.

    Advertising slogans

    Brilliance – it’s better than a Trabant.
Brilliance – go on – live dangerously.
Brilliance – we value your safety as much as we value our workers safety.
Brilliance – you’ll never know what hit you.

Quite pretty, but some more photos perhaps CA?

  • DGS

A cheap car at a not so cheap price. China has become the byeword for quality, with china you can say “bye” to quality. shall we get started on safety?

Maybe you would buy one….. for your exwife!

  • realcars

More crap from Chinas. That’s all we need!

  • Captain Nemo

Ideal car for the mother in law.

  • Captain Mainwaring

It looks good, even if it’s a combination of the best of what they could copy. And if it’s priced right it will sell well, as the prospective buyers motivated solely by $$$ don’t seem to care too much about crash safety. If they did, they wouldn’t still be driving the old 1993 dunger that they still have.

“Official pricing has not been released yet but we expect around AUD$29,000 if sedan pricing is anything to go by.”

You can buy a pretty reasonable Japanise or European car for that. The Koreans have offerings in that price range that are at least proven to be reliable, safe and actually quite well put together.

You would be a braver man than I to risk almost $30,000 on one of these.

“You would be a braver man than I to risk almost $30,000 on one of these.”

There is almost no chance that it will sell at 30K – I mean who are we kidding – HOWEVER they will lower and lower the price until it sells. And they can afford to, since their manufactoring cost is significantly less than virtually anywhere else.

It’s almost certain Chinese firms will put a LOT of pressure on all manufacturers – and I think it’s a great news for consumers.

“It’s almost certain Chinese firms will put a LOT of pressure on all manufacturers – and I think it’s a great news for consumers.”

My only worry about that is some may feel pressured to lower their standards to compete.

Can’t see why you’d buy something like this though for $30000, you’d be much better off getting something a couple of years old for less $$$s.

  • gas

nice looks, just sell this for $25k or less driveaway and i’ll replace my 11 yr old camry wagon which has no abs/airbags at all

  • Hjalle

They are killing it, with its stupid name Brilliance BS from China, its already off to a bad start coming from China. You just know you are going to be made fun of for driving one.

  • Tekkyy

its gotta come with capped service plans like Toyota
or people simply won’t touch a Chinese car

yeah $24-25k would be about right

eu website says 4.65m length 2.79m wheelbase
    quite a long wheelbase

I presume 3 stars NCAP is for the new NCAP right?
if not, it would close to illegal to sell in Europe lol

  • Robin Graves

What a joke – no BS. But seriously, idiots are buying Great Wall! Look at the latest VFacts. Makes me think people would sell their souls to the devil for $1.85

  • demonaz

I think cars are a lot more expensive in Europe than here in Australia, currency conversion wise. So perhaps 29k after currency conversion from euros is perhaps very cheap for something in that segment in Europe.

  • Delta

No matter how good it is, I wouldn’t drive a car named BS. However, I do enjoy the humour from its name, Brilliance BS, haha. Doomed from the start :D .

  • Dlr1

There will also be dealers lining up to get franchises too. Great Wall has had no shortage of interested dealers wanting to take on what they hope will be the next “Hyundai” Every body laughed at Hyundai dealers until they released the X3 Excel @ $14999 D/A and sold 50,000+ (in 93 or 94?). Maybe this car might have to be $19999 D/A… at that price some people would rather this to a second hand 3y.o. 60K car. Not me, but someone.

  • WVB

    3 stars………not that brirriant!
