HSV launches countdown to E Series 2

August 3, 2009 by George Skentzos

With Holden set to unveil its VE Series II range tomorrow, HSV has also begun its countdown to the launch date of the new E Series 2 line up.

HSV launches countdown to E Series 2 range

The next generation HSV range is due to arrive on September 9 boasting a series of design, equipment and powertrain upgrades – as well as many firsts for an Australian production car.

Current reports suggest a new LPi variant will be introduced into the range which should significantly reduce the running costs of the big V8 while maintaining performance.

The GTS is also expected to receive added street credibility to reinforce its status as the HSV performance flagship with a few extra kilowatts from the LS3 engine.

“HSV continues to lead the way with this new range. More design point of difference. More options. More firsts for Australian production cars. More investment. This is a serious new car story. And a very exciting one at that.”

Unlike its Holden counterparts, the new HSV range is expected to look quite different from the current models with the addition of a G8-style vented bonnet a strong possibility.

A new front fascia and side skirts are guaranteed while LED daytime running lights have become a popular topic for speculation.

The level of customisation should also be improved with new owners able to create a genuinely unique car straight from the showroom thanks to a raft of new optional accessories.

So now if you want to add the $10k WPS performance kit [which inludes the Supercharger and Bi-modal Exhaust etc - from the UK VX-R8 "Bath-urst Edition"] to your $70K clubbie or even your $60K Maloo.. not only will it will beat a W-427 but it will be covered under “Factory Warranty”.. as the enhancements are done through your local HSV dealer when you place your order.

What’s more for the price of a W-427 you can have both a customised Clubbie and a Maloo – how cool is that?

  2. Byron says:

Can’t Wait. Love HSV. 09.09.09. Excited 10/10 :) Go HSV!

  3. Schah7 says:

Typical Holden/HSV/Chev require bigger engines and superchargers JUST to be competitive.!LOL.!

  4. Toxic_Horse says:

Schah7 what are you talking about
    Big Engines are HSV’s thing

  5. jon says:

Agree Schah7, anyone can shove a big motor in a car and get it to go quick, I mean HSV are hardly at the forefront of engineering though.

  6. Ross R says:

*kick* You sound like a broken record Charles/Jon/Will.

Seems the boys at Top Gear were impressed by them and to me their opinion counts .

  7. Sam-R says:

    You can’t beat cubes!

  8. Bavarian Missile®™ says:

quote ” unlike INCORRECTLY claimed GTHO in the 70’s”

    Ummmmmmmm excuse me ?

God not the cubes thing again. More cubes less revs needed ,just a different way off extracting grunt ,thats all.

  9. Schah7 says:

B Missile ^ but a far more “inefficient” way of producing power oops “extracting grunt”
    Comparing size/size = apples/apples.

  10. OMG says:

Charles/Jon/Will/Schah7 just love whacking themselves into a frenzy over displacement and cubes don’t they…oh, and lets not forget the old chestnut ‘pushrods’
Can’t wait to hear some more about ‘pushrods’ yeeeeah let’s drag that one out again…and again…and again

  11. LPi says:

    For thy

  12. LPi says:

    Sorry^Bavarian Missile®™

Having a issue with my proxies…

    Anyway, as i clearly stated:

The new LPi [NOT LP1 as C/A called the hybrid Cerato incorrectly] HSV could in theory if it had higher compression, have higher output than the PULP powered one.

All this and the fact that it WILL be cheaper to fuel than a bog-stock 6 cylinder, and perhaps as low as a 4 cylinder.

If its dual fuel, which i believe it is, will give a range of around 1000km which is outstanding, via both fuels of course.

Further, re:” unlike INCORRECTLY claimed GTHO in the 70’s” yes this was false rubbish written by Wheels Mag [again]

In this case though the HSV powered by LPG could well be the fastest-4-door-sedan on the planet POWERED-BY-LPG

    Cheers,

  13. Will says:

The LPG initiative I find intriguing. Does this machine start from cold on gas? What is the range of the machine? Potentially a significant step up on a budget.

  14. Bavarian Missile®™ says:

True Schah7, you can save yourself $300 a year on fuel and spend an extra 80-100k getting that efficiency .

Why is it hard for some to understand some of us have respect for both options. I have always said ” you want more inches stroke it” :)

  15. The Realist says:

The advertisement above is laughable – looks like it was designed by a graphic design student from Mt Druitt public school.

Much as I criticise HSV, they do look good in black with 20″ alloys. The LED DRLs (if true) would really complete the exterior package. FPV really have to catch up exterior looks wise.

  16. Schah7 says:

    Bavarian M
So are you suggesting, vurtually every other car designer/manfacturer are Wrong and G.M.[and yourself]LOL is Right.!
Think you’re been “stroking” too many “pushrods”.!LOL

  17. OMG says:

LOL I guess !LOL that AMG and BMW are wrong LOL! as well with their big engines !LOL let’s not forget Lamborghini and how about that Veyron !LOL LOL!
    LOL!

  18. Shak says:

If you all havent forgotten Mercedes also do a large 6.2 litre engine in the AMG C class and E class. So Just coz HSV do it you guys thinks it old and backwards. If you dont like them then F@ck off and let us enjoy all the glorious noise.

  19. Bavarian Missile®™ says:

Im talking high horsepower engines ,thats what you were mocking weren’t you ?

NASA developed a special pen to write in space, the Russians used a pencil :P

  20. NacaYoda says:

Bavarian Missle: Actually, the Russians did not use pencils in space. Their tendancy to splinter and release lead and wood chips into the weightless cabin deemed them too dangerous to the astronauts. I think they used crayons, just like the Americans, until an inventer designed the Space Pen, and sold them in the thousands to both countries for space use.

  21. Bavarian Missile®™ says:

Schah7 my bet will be when Holden start using BMW diesels in their cars you still wont buy one,so how about you just admit you dont like GM products and be done with it. Nothing to do with push rods, honed out bores or longer rods is it !

  22. Bavarian Missile®™ says:

Well there you go NacaYoda, never knew the real facts on the subject. Its just one of those old sayings you compare over complication to simple but still effective.

  23. Schah7 says:

    Bavarian/M
The Germans wouldn’t lower themselves to the level of putting one of “their” engines into a Holden.
Well if it did happen, that would “fix” the problem and finally put Holden [engine wise] into the 21st Century.
G.M has Daewoo to do that for them.LOL.!

  24. Devil666 says:

Schah7, go suck a blue oval lollipop.

The Germans will do whatever they want, so don’t speak on their behalf. They don’t like you.

Holden’s new 3.0 V6 IS very 21st century! It is comparable to the 530i in power (both 190kw). Sure it is 15 or so nm down, but would you pay 3 times as much for 15nm?

More importantly, the 3.6 (not even in its full power state of tune) is the most powerful Aussie engine. Even with an extra 400cc the Ford isn’t competitive. Sure it has more torque, but specific output per litre, or efficiency as you have been talking about above, it is less than the Holden. More power outright. More power per litre. More torque per litre.

Facts are facts, these engine updates combined with 6 speed standard trannies is VERY MUCH a 21st century upgrade (and about bloody time, Holden!)

  25. Richo says:

A quite note to OMG – LOL how about AMG’s flagship motor LOL which has a displacement LOL of LOL 6.3 litres LOL which is LOL bigger LOL then the HSV LS3 motor !LOL LOL!

Seriously, no one says anything about AMG having a 6.3 litre motor, they previously used a supercharged 5.4 litre motor as their flagship motor but found that a larger displacement naturally aspirated motor was more pure and in keeping with the “feeling” they where trying to create in their cars. If its ok for AMG then why isn’t it ok for HSV? Now go away…

  26. OMG says:

Exactly the point I was making, re-read and comprehend.
It’s called sarcasm or taking the pi$$, sorry if it was over your head
    Now go away…

  27. Richo says:

OMG – I know mate, I was playing along with you in the first paragraph, and in the second I was having a spray at the people criticising HSV based purely on displacement

  28. The Realist says:

I bet these cars will come with the latest E2 floor mats which the Germans don’t have!! Are they going to run another advert now: Australia 2 – Germany 0

Can’t wait to buy HSV replicas from the local BP for $4.99

  29. Camski says:

The 6.2 in the Merc is justifiable actually.

And yes, displacement, is another way of extracting power. A clear comparison would be the M3 and the C63 which both put out around the 300KW mark. Having big displacement isn’t necessarily a bad thing if the 63 is anything to go by, drive one and you’ll understand why. It’s power delivery for daily driving that makes the difference, from light to light not from corner to corner on a track, where it makes little difference.

It’s one thing to have 300KW and 500Nm from a 5L V8, it’s another to have it delivered to you by a 4.5L Turbo’d 6. The moment you touch the accelerator in 6th, instant power delivery. No delay.

The Realist – You know, AMG are cutting back, you don’t even get the “AMG” floormats anymore =(
