Great…
All this stuff is standard on overseas Navaras so really it’s not that special. Would it be so much for Nissan to make this a permanent model? Especially considering there’s a Triton GLS (top model that comes with all the toys like leather etc) and the Ranger Wildtrak (ditto and likewise) that I’ve seen many examples of – saying that they sell alright. I’m sure the some ute-buyers would like the ute to be on par in terms of everything compared to normal cars! Where’s the ESP that is on Euro models of ALL utes sold here??? And why is the Triton the only ute to offer 6 airbags, even if the extra 4 are an option???
Wait ’til VW bring their utes here Jake, which no doubt will have ESP standard. Hopefully then the other manufacturers will wake up and make their utes safer.
Oh, and doesn’t Nissan still have a crap crash rating with the Navara re: EuroNCAP tests?
Lol thankyou VW Freak. The difference is VW have standards in safety! If they sell lots than yep the others will have to as well.
The Navara did get a one-star, but they re-tested it and it got three. Compared with Triton’s four. I really hate Navaras.
Pretty nice, but I’ll wait for the Amorok thanks.
Well, the Volkswagen Amok is their first Pick-up, so i would’nt buy one
in the first production year, coz i wouldnt like to be their paying test-driver….
too much plastic anyway, bumpers etc, and the soft-touch interior wont
last very long in the Aussie sunshine…
I for one am not pleased by the proposition of dolling up the best 4×4 ute, designed as a workhorse, with leather and such trinkets. Jake, if you were in the market for a 4×4 ute, then you would love Navaras, because they are the best in class. Best engine bar none. Huge towing capacity, better than HiLux and Triton, and potentially the best dashboard switch of any car ever made: rear wheel drive, four wheel drive or low range four wheel drive. Auto locking front hubs means no sending your passengers out of the car, nor coming to a dead stop to change into 4wd. How good is that!
As far as the safety is concerned, I am not concerned. I’ve seen them after rollovers, and with minor panel beating and some new glass, it passed blue slip after going over the pits. 3 star or not, it is a very tough car with plenty of crumple zone. The car isn’t built to pass safety tests, it is built to survive in the real world. And it is one tough mother.
Jake, if you really are so concerned about safety, I wouldn’t be looking at real utes at all, high centre of gravity and light rear ends makes them very easy to roll. Go buy a Commodore ute.
TBH, the only problem Navaras face ATM is in the 6 speed manual diesel versions. Earlier models are burning through clutches because of the torquey engine and the two piece flywheel and the clutch not being strong enough. Nissan has released a kit to rectify the problem.
devil,
what about the autos(and manuals)fuel consumption on the second series, the towbars which break, the odd cracked chassis, and my personal favorite, the noisy rear window seals that nissan STILL can’t fix.
still the best truck on the market but.given the short(read nil)supply recently due to the seat drama’s,these models will ALL sell very shortly…
J&H, the fuel consumption on even the first series was pretty average.
Tow bars which break? Would they all be OEM? Because many consumers opt for 3rd party bars.
The odd cracked chassis? That seems a bit of a myth, i’ve been watching these utes since 06 and never herd such a thing. So yeah, definitely ‘the odd’ cracked one.
Also, I find the front window noisier than the rear window, and that is only when the radio is off, so I don’t know what you’re complaining about. And considering the groan from the diesel, the radio is rarely off :P
Certainly not the most refined ute, if you want refinement get an Outback. This ones for the big boys.
Devil666,
Are you forgetting that families exist? The Navara’s reat seat is possibly the most uncomfortable places I’ve ever sat in. It maybe clever in copying the Honda Jazz (flipping up/down) but the bench is too short, and the backrest is too flat/upright.
The 3-mode 4WD system is definitely no match for the Triton’s four-mode system.
I’m sorry, but an original 1-star car is simply not good enough, no matter how they’ve tried to fix it. Before buying my Triton, a mate has a Navara petrol auto and he’s gone through about 7 recalls. Now seriously wtf??? How could they get things that wrong?
You seem to love the Navara, each to their own of course, but for my family and I the Triton was a better option.
What do you mean by “Jake, if you really are so concerned about safety, I wouldn’t be looking at real utes at all, high centre of gravity and light rear ends makes them very easy to roll. Go buy a Commodore ute.”
You must be the CEO of Nissan, becasuse a comment like that is inexcuseable. 4WDs have a just-as-high centre-of-gravity, and you’re just brushing the lack-of-safety off! And my family should be reason enough to not want a Commodore ute (let alone the fact that it doesn’t have 4WD) Yep, its no wonder why you like the Navara! :D
Harley Stone(What the!), mark my words, even if the Amoroks problems aren’t sorted by the time it goes on sale, it will still revolutionize the utility market with it’s safety and comfort.
Sounds interesting…a bit different from other utes. It’s expensive, I’d rather buy a really great car than ute.
Devil666, you seem to be forgettin that Triton has superselct box, which means swhich from 2wd (rear wheel) to 4wd high whist on the move at up to 100kph, and no getting out to lock your hub, Nissin’s 4wd abilities only lie with the patrol and that is only good because its basically been the same chasis for nearly 20 years now . . .
Andrew, Devil666 does have a point in that Navara is the best ute in its class. Its ride and road holding compromise, transmissions and interior are all class leading. Towing capacity is class equalling. It has great engine choices. Its better value than Triton and Hilux, not to mention way better looking. And its off-road ability is just as capable as the best in its segment. One of the few vehicles that Nissan got right.

Devil666, I ended up gettin a nav, hilux and triton were on my radar….Back seat leg room was my main buying point…I assumed triton were the best, till we got a cpl at work, after 6months i was totally turned off the triton. Hilux’s were to $$$ for the gear u got, with the money i saved i can really turn the nav to a REAL offroader
I AM TRULY INTERESTED IN THE NAVARA, BUT MY FRIEND WAS TELLING ME ABOUT THE CRASH RATINGS AND ALSO THE FAULTS AND FLAWS ON THE COMPUTERISED SYSTEMS.HAVE THESE THINGS BEEN CORRECTED? CAN I STILL GO AHEAD AND PURCHASE THE NAVARA AND TRUST THAT THE 2009 MODEL HAS BEEN CORRECTED.
