A new turbocharged petrol engine, fresh styling and a significant increase in equipment headline the upgrades to the 2015 Peugeot 508 that goes on sale in Australia today.

The price of the entry-level 508 Active sedan rises $1000 to $37,990 plus on-road costs, though Peugeot Australia says the variant gains $4000 in additional features over its predecessor including the new 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, a 7.0-inch touchscreen for the new infotainment system, reverse-view camera, LED daytime running lights and foglights, steering wheel paddleshifters, and more.

Peugeot is hoping the added value helps boost sales of the entry variant from 15 per cent of total 508 volume to roughly one in four sales.

Peugeot 508 Allure

The mid-spec 508 Allure is $2000 more expensive than before at $45,990 for the sedan and $48,990 for the Allure Touring wagon, but Peugeot says this is more than offset by a $2500 boost in specification including many of the features listed above as well as a blind spot monitor.

A $1700 price rise takes the flagship 508 GT sedan to $58,490 and the GT Touring to $61,490 as it gains full LED headlamps, Nappa leather sports seats with red stitching and a massaging driver’s seat over the old model.

The 2015 Peugeot 508 Active’s new 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine produces 121kW and 240Nm (up 6kW on the old engine) and is 18 per cent more fuel efficient, consuming 5.8 litres per 100 kilometres on the combined cycle.

Outputs and economy ratings for the 2.0- and 2.2-litre diesel engines are unchanged from before.

Peugeot 508 Allure

The 2015 Peugeot 508 has marginally longer front and rear overhangs than the previous model as it embraces the French brand’s modern design language with new headlamps, grille, bonnet, bumper and front guards.

Boot volumes are unchanged at 497 litres for the sedan and 612L for the Touring.
