Mazda Australia records best month ever
July 1, 2009 by Matt Brogan
Despite the on-going financial doom and gloom Mazda Australia have bucked the trend recording its best sales month ever this June retailing a bumper 8406 units.
The impressive result shattered the company’s previous best of 7565 set back in March of 2008.
The key to Mazda’s success rests largely with the all-new Mazda3 which sold some 3741 units across Australia in June.
Mazda’s BT-50 utility and Mazda2 small car have also had a good month with 1327 and 1202 model sales recorded respectively.
“This truly is a wonderful result for Mazda and our world-class dealer network, with very solid sales across all of our line-up,” said Mazda Australia managing director Doug Dickson. “It clearly demonstrates that the New Generation Mazda3 will build on the success of the original model. The New Generation Mazda3’s combination of style, Zoom-Zoom performance, features and outstanding value builds on Mazda’s brand DNA. This recipe clearly satisfies the expectations and desires of a growing number of Australian new car buyers.”

Good on ya Maz!
Not surprised given the number of new Mazda 3’s I’ve seen on the road. Also a sign the car market might be recovering finally.
i work at amr Mazda is was a bussy June for us Mazda is on roll the new Mazda 3 a fantastic car the people on this site doesn’t like it when u drive it you will understand Mazda number one car company
3,741 is very impressive. It’ll be good enough to top the sales chart unless the Commodore had a good month also.
Good on Mazda. The new Mazda 3 is so popular that there are waiting periods for certain models.
Well done Mazda, I`m not a fan of the way the new 3 looks but it appears to be from what I have read a very good car.
Lucky I bought my Mazda 3 early :) BUT i didn’t get the bargain i was hoping for :(
Anyway, early adopters always pay the higher price.
Dunno why mazda 3 tops the list.
I think it has large old people’s customer base.
Mechanically Lancer outdoes Mazda every way.
It is much stronger and has 5 ANCAP vs 4 Mazda 3.
Warranty 5 yr.
Downside – just a tad more tyre noise … but that’s because of harder tyre.
Give me Lancer anyday.
Lancerfan please do not post incorrect information and pass it off as facts.
“It is much stronger and has 5 ANCAP vs 4 Mazda 3.”
Thats really funny considering that the mazda 3 hasn’t been test yet.
Also as to the lancer being mechanically better, well that is just your opinion and I will just leave it at that. Also the mazda 3 sold 3,741 units. I can guarantee you it appeals to more than just old people. In fact I would say quite the opposite with most buyers being under 50 or even 40
Good sales figures for the mazda 3. When do the diesel and MPS versions come out?
The MPS is expected to be released in August while the diesel sometime next year
Good on you mazda… MPS comes out this month and the current 3 is a great car.. even though i got myself one i’m still not a fan of the smiley grill but in black its not much of an issue. zoomzoom
LancerFan, considering the current 2 and 6 achieved a 5-star rating I’m sure the 3 will aswell. The Lancer is no where near as good to drive as the 3 and has a horrible interior aswell, really cheap stuff.
For the same price, I know where my money would go…
Though I’m not a huge fan of Mazda, I simply can’t ignore the fact that they keep on coming out with great cars recently… Good on them for firing the competition and whipping the others into shape!
I hope they distance their exterior looks from Peugeot though, no matter how ‘coincidental’ that is.
Amiaq : How much did you buy your mazda 3 SP25?
Don’t read too much into what LancerFan has said. He just taking the pi55 out of the 3.
Saw a sp25 hatch today. The rear end looks a bit fussy in my humble opinion. And the keyhole in the center looks very out of place. Also would of liked to see the clear style tail lights (sp23 style) instead of the current ones (looks like current impreza hatch style tailights). Interior wise, the new 3 is amazing. They’ve certainly come a long way !!!
Any one know the price of Mazda 3 SP25 ?
Have anybody seen the sedan on the road yet?
Well done Mazda… i think one of the important reason that making mazda so popular is customer service…. for example, Of course everyone the comfortable life, when you go to service your car and they give you a car for temporary use.. Are they any company do that?….
toyota take note, should do some updates with the corolla asap, make it more exciting and for god’s sake make the rear power windows standard on base model, it’s really annoying esp. with the kids who always leave them down
Great to see, Mazda were holding their breath with a slow start in sales for the new Mazda 3., but since returning close to record 3 sales.
It is Mazda Australia’s intention to become the #1 car brand in Australia, you laugh, just wait and see.
The Lancer is only a 5 star car in VR, VRX and ES with airbag option. Lancer is cheaper than Mazda3 especially at sale driveaway prices ($21,888 most recently) which partially explains interior and noise.
It is difficult to argue that the Lancer is anywhere but the pointy end of the class when it comes to drivetrain. 115kW and 7.6L/100km is going pretty good for the basic model, and the 2.4L has even more power! It’s just missing a 6 speed manual.
Ms A, yes I’ve seen a few Mazda3 sedans getting around, I think they’re a little too big in the back and would opt for a hatch or Mazda6. Shame I bought a new car last year :(
Anybody ready wheels latest comparison on small cars?. 3 finished second to the VW Golf. Lancer finished????……..Problem is you need to spend a lot of $$$ to get a good lancer.
“Mazda, you should see us now”
Yeap, indeed, its simple really:
“To supply products of the highest quality yet at a reasonable price for our customers total satisfaction”
At the moment Mazda is doing that better than anybody else, time to lift your game big time BigT[tm.F-0]what your dishing out in the Corolla is appaling really!
Lucky the Tiida exists, so it still makes the Corolla look ok!
Cheers

there are many reasons for these results.
1) 50% tax reduction on new vehicles.
2) people down sizing to smaller cars recession
3) Mazda has a strong customer base from previous generation mazda3
4) end of financial year, great time to buy any car.
Apart from point 2 & 3, point 1 & 2 are major factors for the sales boom, you’ll find many commercial cars an many popular passenger cars will have an increased sales for the month of June.
But im not taking anything away from mazda, i was a proud owner of a mazda SP23 and can completly understand why the car is so popular.
Mazda is the best option by far, if you can’t afford a VW.
The front is a bit ugly, but so are lots of other cars, and you don’t see the front when you’re driving.
I’ve been a Mazda fan since 1984 when the 626 was released with 4 wheel discs. Up till then that was only available on the Fiat 125 range, which were fantastic driver’s cars, lots of soul. The Mazda didn’t really have the soul, though, it was more “clinically good”.
Hi Andrew,
I am planning to buy a mazda 3 SP25. You are right, the back a little too big for me and high.
I am confusing of choosing the hatch or the sedan.
I see the black sedan ,its look really nice to me… I also dont like the back of the hatch …Gee, hard to choose…
oh, you bought a new car last year , if not you should buy a mazda 3 now and we drive the same car then… : )
There’ll be lots of cars with all-disc brakes before the Mazda 626, Reckless1. I owned one, a Peugeot 504, which had dics on all wheels right from their Australian release in 1970. Off the top of my head, so did Jaguar XJs, Citroen DSes and Ford’s 1973 LTD. There’ll be more, for sure.
Hi Ms A
All the best with buying a car, we’ve had three Mazda’s in our family and they’re great cars. I do like the new SP25 hatch, but even though the sedan back is big it’s not as if it’s in the same league as the last Camry… thankfully!
Unfortunately yes I did buy a new car last year, a new Lancer which does a good job and I am very happy with it. At the time the new Mazda3 wasn’t around and you can’t hold your breath waiting!

“3,741 is very impressive. It’ll be good enough to top the sales chart unless the Commodore had a good month also”
Word is that Falcon/Territory/Commodore all up. CamAurion down AGAIN, and that both Corolla and Hilux did more than tha 4000 units each (very strong fleet sales due to Gov rebates).
Negative vote? Somebody didn’t like the facts!
Although im a massive Commi fan, in reality its not the most popular car in Australia. The car that most people spend thier own money on is the 3, and its gotten even bettr with the new 3. Mazda deserve this success because they read the market and delivered what the people wanted.
We buy way too many imported cars in this country.
yes..because our dinosaurs are overpriced and poor quality.the people are so smart they put their hard earned money for quality import.our dinosaurs are only for fleets and bogans anyway.
Mr Bite,
Your pathetic mantra on locally produced cars is getting pretty boring.
The REALITY of it is that not only are Australian made cars very good value for money & are of a standard comparable to most others, in the case of Falcon, Territory and Commodore, sales are actually UP.
You must be refering to Camry and Aurion, as they are the only locally made cars where sales numbers are slipping badly (but Camry does have exports to offset that).
Oh and BTW the number one fleet seller in Australia is Hilux.
WELL,sadly your dinosaurs won’t be here in 2 year time.
that is good..fleet Hilux beats fleet dinosaurs.
Hilux…the best seller last month…bleeding heart?
^^ You are seriously delusional my friend. All 3 local manufacturers have recently invested significant sums of money on their Australian facilities, and all intend to stay for the long term.
Mr Bite,
The dinosaurs have already left.
But on another note, the vehicles made here in OZ are certainly of todays standard
Ford Dont make XF Falcons anymore, and Holden dropped the VK long time ago. The Vehicles they do currently make however are certainly of this decade
what you bogans think? the only australians made are these 2 dinosaurs but not Camry(America’s best selling sedan for 7 years straight).
well..if you can’t export your products you are finished.end of story.
D-I-N-G-O
I see you still don’t comprehend other peoples posts before launching into nefarious rants.
Didn’t you read my references to CamAurions.
it is unthinkable…right?the only one will be left here in 2 year time may be 3.
^^ what does that mean in english??
bogans won’t understand.you bogans seriously think these 2 dinosaurs will survive by selling around 3200 units a month (locally made ) mainly to fleets and bogans?one dinosaur not making money but loss for 5 years straight.see the big picture.
Well if Bogan is the term used to describe someone who purchases the class leading vehicle, then yes I suppose I am a Bogan.
Out of interest, what do you call those that purchase the inferior product???
The new 3 got a stupid grin. Wait for a few months when the old 3 run-out sale are no longer available then report back.
Funny how the people bagging the Mazda 3 against the VW Golf last month have nothing to say about this sales success. (With the exception of Golfschwein who is sensibly objective accurate)
Would be interested to see how many Golfs were shifted during the same period as both are new models with similar price points and compete in the same segment.
Cheers
class leading?by whom?only bogans think their craps are better than BMW,LEXUS at half the price.
