The Mazda MX-5 Accessories Concept has been unveiled at the Chicago motor show along with confirmation of the output of the production car’s 2.0-litre engine.

As previously speculated, the 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G four-cylinder engine will produce 116kW of power and 200Nm of torque, which is within 2kW of the same motor when it’s used in Australia-bound Mazda 3 and CX-5.

In the MX-5, 2.0-litre motor can be paired with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0-litre motor will be standard issue in the US.

For Australia, the new MX-5 will be offered with both a 1.5-litre four-pot and the larger and more powerful 2.0-litre engine when it goes on sale in the second half of the year.

Earlier this month it was confirmed that the 1.5-litre engine will develop 96kW of power at 7000rpm and 150Nm of torque at 4800rpm.

The MX-5 Accessories Concept has been fitted with items that should be available as optional extras on the next-generation roadster.

Items fitted to the concept include forged black 17-inch BBS alloy wheels clad in 205/45 rubber and a Brembo braking package complete with red calipers.

The gloss black aero kit fitted to car is the same as the one applied to the MX-5 Global Cup racing car, which debuted at last year’s SEMA show. This kit includes a front lip spoiler, extensions to the side sills, a boot lip spoiler and a rear bumper skirt.

Also on display in Chicago is a carbonfibre luggage rack. Weighing under 900 grams, the luggage rack fits onto the car’s boot lid and include a high-mount brake light.
