2009 Alfa Romeo 149 spied and rendered

An all-new successor to the current Alfa Romeo 147 is due to be released later this year which will take its design inspiration from the 8C Competizione which also spawned the MiTo.
Though heavily camouflaged, the distinctive new Alfa Romeo styling means it is relatively easy to imagine what the new 149 looks like beneath the canvas, as depicted with these artists renderings.
The new 149 may come very close to the former Alfa Romeo 156 in length, but it is actually based on the platform of the current Fiat Bravo and will be available in five-door guise only.
The new model line up will include a range of turbocharged petrol engines delivering between 89 and 198kW with a V6 unit for the range-topping GTA.
Like the MiTo, the new 149 will receive a six-speed manual transmission with an automatic being available as an option for some engines.

Can’t tell much from the spy pics, but the frontal CGI is a horror – far too much upthrust in the bonnet area.
Then again, if they have to shape it this way to fit in some past-their-use-by ex PT Cruiser mechanical bits, then it may well end up looking like this.
I really like the rear, but they can keep the MiTo-like front – not particularly nice…It’ll be a good car though, hopefully the reliabilty will improve over the 147!
Hopefully it will not look like that first wierd picture.
Like so many Alphas it will be a polarising design,and like so many of them it will be a little ripper to drive.Hope the interior is as funkey as the current model,so that it makes you want to lick it all over,yeeehaa.
I don’t care for that rendering. Enough said, but I will say more. The back doesn’t look too bad but it doesn’t hold a candle to that rendering you guys had of it while back. It was red and it looked properly fantastic. Apart from anything, there’s not going to be a three door 149. The Mito has filled that gap.
That is hideous. Really not a fan of the bulbous MiTo design language, its like they’re trying to go for a Mini look but it just fails.
No way is that first image accurate, the design looks far too awkward for an Alfa. Also Alfa Romeo have specifically said there will be no 3-dr model, its a 5-dr only.
Hey guys dont forget that these images are rendered so unless you see it in the flesh it’s a big call to make saying it looks hideous.
I’m sure it will be sexy and funky like the latest of alfas, 8C, Mito, Brera.

Superb looking, and kudos to Alfa for not being a sheep and just copying, good to see a few auto makers have guts to try something new [paging vw golf!]
Will be the 2nd product from the FIAT Group to have the MultiAir.

I agree it looks good. It has its own unique design and completely different from other car designs. I’m pretty sure aside from its looks, it has great features too, distinctive of 149.
I agree it looks shit!!!!!!!! Look at the front, specially the CGI picture. That makes me feel sick….. :-(
