Toyota Australia says more than 100,000 local customers will benefit from its move to cut prices across its range of Japan-sourced vehicles ahead of the finalisation of Australia’s free trade agreement (FTA) with the Asian nation.

Price cuts of up to $7630 have been applied to some of the company’s most popular passenger cars and SUVs, including the Yaris, Corolla hatchback, RAV4, Prado and LandCruiser, as well as its commercial vans.

The price cuts translate to savings of between $700 and $1200 on Yaris, $500 and $1050 on Corolla hatch, $1000 on Rukus, $1500 to $2000 on Prius, $1918 to $2675 on Tarago, $1200 to $2300 on RAV4, $1000 on FJ Cruiser, $2370 to $7630 on Prado, and $3175 to $6175 on LandCruiser.

Prices of the Prius C, Prius V and 86 are unchanged as all three are set to be updated in the coming months.

The Corolla sedan and HiLux are sourced from Thailand and therefore are not affected by the FTA with Japan, while the same applies to the Australian-made Camry and Aurion sedans.

Toyota Australia executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb described the decision to lower prices immediately rather than wait for the duty reductions that will start flowing from January 15 was an aggressive move and an expression of its renewed commitment to its customers.

“Based on 2014 sales figures, this move is expected to result in lower prices for well over 100,000 Toyota vehicles in the coming year – or more than half Toyota’s annual sales in Australia,” Cramb said.
