Renault Sport R.S. 01 : Nismo-powered racer to get supercar styling

Renault’s replacement for its Megane Trophy racecar - the new Renault Sport R.S. 01 - will boast genuine supercar styling when it debuts at next month’s 2014 Moscow motor show.

The French manufacturer has teased fresh design elements of its new racer, which will compete in the 2015 World Series by Renault championship.

The teaser video and image highlight its massive rear wing, flowing LED tail-lights, dual exhaust outlets embedded in the bumper and a broad diffuser.

The R.S. 01’s design is reminiscent of the Alpine A110-50 concept, though Renault says the two are not related.

The car maker has given no indication that its new racecar could inspire a road-going production supercar, though the R.S. 01 is certain to generate plenty of speculation that Renault is readying its own supercar to rival the likes of the Nissan GT-R.

Confirmed last month, the Renault Sport R.S. 01 will feature a 368kW-plus Nismo-sourced powerplant and a seven-speed sequential transmission. A lightweight carbon monocoque should keep its mass down to roughly 1100kg.

The R.S. 01 will be unveiled on August 27 before launching into the World Series in April.
