Full Throttle 2 – Day 2
April 26, 2009 by Karl Peskett

The anticipation is immense. We’ve all got the jittery butterflies that come a combined total of over 7000 horsepower to be at our disposal.
But first it was time for the longest leg of our journey.
After receiving a complimentary business class upgrade, thanks to the wonderful staff at Etihad Airways, we have just spent a very comfortable 17 hours ensconced in one of the finest aircraft chairs in the business.
The food was nothing short of gourmet, as well.
But after hopping off the plane in the UAE, we were escorted by ground staff through a fast-tracked security checkpoint, and then brought to the business class lounge. And oh, what a way to travel.
With the Full Throttle team luxuriating in wood panelled surroundings, it was time to explore some of what makes Etihad such a contender in the upper class market.
You see, the lounge offers a spa, fine food, a selection of beverages and comfortable leather chairs, as well as personalised service, such as an introduction to the entire area, and someone attending to your every needs.
You will be talked to by an actual person when your flight is ready to go, and ushered through to your gate. If there ever was a definition of service, this was it.
Shortly we’ll be leaving for Frankfurt, and we’ll update you as soon as we land in Germany.

Well I guess that plug covers the free business class upgrade, so….wheres the car stuff?
looks like the obligations to sponsors have been taken care of then.
WOW first a Facebook “status update” that mentions said airline, now an advertisement masquerading as a post. Subtle guys. Are you going to have to do this thing on the way back as well? Get back to the cars! Or tell me when you are back in Aus and this website stops talking about food on planes, just don’t tell me through a “status update” as I wont get it as I am no longer a fan.
Got to love readers comments,, agree where is the car stuff is this caradvice or adverts R us ?? We already have the side bar adverts thankx.
Don’t worry guys, car stuff is coming. However it’s worth noting that our flights were worth over $40,000 so a brief mention on how nice it was (which it was) doesn’t need to be taken so cynically.
We’re updating day by day, so in the 24 hours of travelling we did, we’re reporting what’s happening.
Gotta love people get to enjoy CarAdvice for free, then whinge when a sponsor (was Ethiad a sponsor?) is mentioned.

Please keep reporting on your whole trip alborz. Don’t worry about the plebs above.
Some of us here actually travel quite a bit and for me it’s interesting seeing these and comparing to Star Alliance and OneWorld lounges.
The business lounges are fantastic. It is so nice and relaxing you dont feel like you are in an airport and you actually get decent food. One of my highlights when I travel.
I’m flying to UK with Etihad next week. Should I just say that I work for Car Advice and I can blag a free upgrade too?
