Chevrolet Camaro SS prototype hits the ‘Ring

March 17, 2009 by George Skentzos

According to reports, Holden has unofficially returned to the Nürburgring – this time with a prototype version of the soon-to-be released Chevrolet Camaro SS.

The current flagship of the Camaro range apparently set a lap time of 8:19 with an unnamed driver behind the wheel – significantly better than the Holden-based Pontiac G8 GXP.

According to General Motors, the car used was “80 percent” prototype with the production model expected to be even quicker.

Obviously this lap time is dwarfed by “Ring Kings” such as the Nissan GT-R and Corvette ZR1, although with talks that a supercharged Z28 Camaro may still be in the works, we may yet see what Holden’s Zeta architecture is capable of.
