Top Gear Australia audience sign-up open

By George Skentzos |

Registration to be part of the studio audience for series two of Top Gear Australia has opened today, with the first episode set to air on May 11.

This new season marks the return of James Morrison to Australian motoring television, as he leads the new local ensemble following Charlie Cox’s withdrawal from the show.

While many have rejected the show following a lacklustre first season, the inclusion of Morrison should make at least the first episode must-watch television for any motoring fan.

“The filming of Top Gear Australia series two will offer even more excitement with a new host in James Morrison who joins the ever popular Warren Brown and Steve Pizzati – and, at every show, the audience will see, first hand, a brand new segment which will involve a stunt in the studio. I can say no more!” said Denise Eriksen, Manager, Production and Development SBS TV and Online.

Registration is open to all, although the show does film close to Sydney at Bankstown airport, in which case interstate fans will have to make their own way to the show.

    James Morrison is gonna ROCK!!

  • spiderman

Actually he won’t rock, but he should jazz it up a bit.
    Sorry……it had to be said!!!!

  • Vince

    Pass…

  • Matt

hmm, can’t see a 20-year waiting list for this one…

  • Alex

Um, hmm – I think I might have something on that night…

    im in

  • realcars

Shame as I thought Charlie Cox was ok.

Especially liked his swan song to support locally made RWD sedans.

    Toyota aren’t a major sponsor are they?LOL.

  • realcars

If SBS or ABC or whoever has the rights to Peter Wherrets Torque can u rerun these late at night as u do old sporting events etc.

…and let me know when they are on!!!!!!

    Peter Wherrets Torque.

  • Alex

Well Realcars, from the many comments I have read on this website, not many agree with you.
I thought his speech about Australian RWD sedans was sad. I mean, it was just so silly. Fact is that most people don’t really have much need for the Falcon or Commodore that they drive and and a Focus or Astra would do much better whilst being a better drive, better to the environment and much better to your wallet. You don’t buy a car that is going out of fashion just because it was built in your country and I have driven them and neither of them are particularly rewarding either. A 5 Series I can justify, a Commodore I can’t.
The only thing that the Commodore and Falcon do is show how far behind Ford Australia and Holden are.

  • Cupid Stunt

Alex – some would crown you with hat of spikes for saying that.
How can you justify a 5 series over a Falcon. Your 530i starts at Au$116K your falcon comparable would be about Au$50K. Think you’ll find thats the reason for a large RWD car. I honestly admire the Australians for demanding a RWD car when Europe has generally succumbed to FWD (BMW excepted).

  • Elitist

Have they changed the whole Ford/Holden/Yobbo crowd/Burnouts in outback backdrops format yet?

  • Falcodore

I wish i could get there but i cant so i will certainly be watching :)

  • http://skyline The Salesman (Has turned into a hippie for a day)

I really want it to be good but after the last effort i just can’t see it. Due to being an aussie and patriotic i will force myself to give it another go. Let’s hope it has that magic. Maybe we should replace one of them with Eric Baner?

  • Bavarian Missile (.)(.)

Hey yeah great idea Salesman, “Love the Beast “comes out Thursday in case you didnt know.

O and I think you should change your name to “Has Turned Into A Hippie For The Second Day “:)

  • http://skyline The Salesman

I have organized an RDO for Thursday, funny that :) I did change my name back before i wrote my comment, don’t forget i am a mere male and I some how stuffed it.:) I wonder if car Advice could arrange a few of its readers to host for a day. I would love to have a go.

  • Marcoz

I think morrison is a great choice allthough i do think he is a bit annoying, but still will be good presenter as he was many years ago for the last aussie car show…
All you guys saying “oh i wont be home that day or im going to be out” good, dont watch it, only true car fans watch car shows, not because of how the host presents it or how they look, or how unfunny thier jokes, the current series on tguk airing now is nearly 5 years old and have seen it many times b4, but on monday night 7.30pm im right their in my comfy chair watching it all over again, WHY? the simple fact I love cars, it’s as simple as that…
Bring on series 2….love the Cars…

  • B///M3

    FAIL!

  • Andronicus

    Let’s be completely honest…..

    ….it sucked.

Series 2 now with more suck.

  • John

Shame really, Cox was the only good presenter of the bunch. Warren Brown & Steve Pizzati were/are both horrible in the show.
The addition of James Morrison will make no difference cos he’ll be the only guy that won’t be annoying.
Salesman is right, they should replace Warran for Eric Banner.

  • realcars

Well Alex I agree with Mr Cox.Falcon suits me to the ground so much so that I’ve bought another one.

Don’t think I’ll bother visiting this site anymore as my Prius comments have been moderated out of existence. So much for free thought!

Seems people can disrepect our local product until the cows come home with no repercussions yet discuss alternatives to the Prius hybrid and that’s what happens.

I am with u Charlie and look forward to the new series.

  • Concerned

    Realcars,
You’re not allowed free speech unless it agrees with the Toyota advertising standards guideline for blog sites.

  • technofreak

Again I will watch a couple of episodes until the bogan attitude makes me cringe…

  • Old CarAdvice Reader

I hope season 2 will be better than season 1.

  • Phil C.

Of course season 2 will be better than the first.

Top Gear UK are now up to season 11. I have the episodes from the 4th season onwards. There is a marked difference in the rapport (plus no more fat guy who was replaced by James) and quality of the show.

The trouble with the Aussie series 1 is we were comparing it against series 9 UK. Completely unfair.

Morrison will be a great addition!

  • Ted

The UK edition of Top Gear on at the moment, seem to be from 2003. Why can’t we see the latest.
The first Australian one was rubbish. They had no compatibility. Every thing they tried to do seemed false. If they don’t do better this time I am afraid that it will be the last one changing channels please turn off the lights

  • Tone

If you really want to find someone to blame for TGA’s slightly lumpy first season, blame the scriptwriter. Between Cox’s unconvincing rant at the end of the season, Warren’s hammy performances in ‘What Were They Thinking’ and Pizzati being forced to use ‘grouse’ as verbal punctuation, it’s really the scriptwriter that should have been given the boot and not Cox.

That said, Morrison should be a good addition … provided the scripts don’t totally suck this time around.

  • James

The guy they really need to add is Grant Denyer!
He is an ex-racing driver and I think he has a perfect personality for this show!
    What do you guys think?
