Honda Mean Mower - 1

Honda UK and its British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) partner Team Dynamics have teamed up to create what is being spruiked as the world’s fastest lawn mower.

Dubbed the Mean Mower, the Honda HF2620 Lawn Tractor-based machine retains its original look and still cuts grass, but is claimed to do 0-100km/h in 4.0 seconds and reach an estimated top speed of 209km/h – all at 130db.

Combining an all-new custom-made chromoly chassis, a fibreglass cutter deck and the engine from a Honda VTR 1000F Firestorm motorbike, the 140kg Mean Mower puts out 80kW and 96Nm – making it 7kW more powerful than an entry-level 1075kg Honda Jazz.

The ride-on mower also features suspension and wheels from a Honda ATV, a custom paddle-shifted six-speed transmission, a Scorpion exhaust system, a Morris Minor steering rack and a Cobra sports seat.

Team Dynamics team manager Pete Crolla said tackling a project like the Mean Mower involved several challenges.

“One of the key challenges is that this has never been done before, to our knowledge, and so there are few learnings to call upon.

“From an engineering perspective, retaining the look of the mower, and the ability to still cut grass were the biggest challenge.”

This could be Honda’s most exciting and best selling vehicle!

Can’t help but think the quality of the cut at 200+kph will suffer

Honda should chuck this engine in the Jazz and call it the Jazz type R

If Honda put as much effort and passion creating their cars as this lawnmower then their cars would still be quite desirable.
A bit ironic that the mower uses a 6 speed paddle shift transmission but the 6 speed auto has yet to be standard across the Honda range. It is currently on a few select models.

    • Truth hurts

If you had any idea about what you were talking about you’d realise that it still uses the original transmission of a VTR1000 which is a 6 speed sequential gearbox. Obviously they have used a solenoid actuated by a paddle on the wheel. Nothing to do with a bulky car type transmission. Also it wasn’t built by Honda but a touring car team. Not rocket science. Stick to your lil car…..

More power than a Jazz and RWD. I know what I’d choose.

Now we know who is responsible for those crop circles – not aliens, but a Honda mechanic hanging on for dear life!

Ah Honda UK… why are you wasting your time on a lawnmower when you should be making a new Civic Type R…

Top Gear asked them to, that’s why.

CTR is expected to be coming in 2015. Rumored to be turbo of some sort.
