Audi Looking At A Boxter Killer

April 26, 2007 by Alborz Fallah

Its obvious that Audi is on a crusade to expand its model range, but just how far will Audi go? Rumours from South African magazine topCar suggest that Audi is planning a Porsche Boxter killer, a sort of, baby Audi R8.

Audi R4

The magazine claims that the basic model will be powered by Volkswagen/Audi’s 2.0-liter turbocharged FSI engine (the same engine found in the Golf GTi) which will be tuned to reach around 200kW!, this will compete with the standard Boxter.

The performance version will be powered by a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine with an estimated power output of around 260kW. The magazine refers to the car as the Audi “R4,” and expects it to debut in late 2009.

However, we are a little unsure of these rumours, as mentioned, its no rumour that Audi is expanding its model range, but with the new Audi TT out and about, would it make sense to bring out a car so similar?
