2007 SsangYong Actyon Sports Utility

By Alborz Fallah |

We previously mentioned the SSangYong Actyon and although not too many felt the need to leave a comment, the Actyon proves to be a popular prospect for buyers in the low end SUV market. SsangYong Australia has today announced prices for Actyon.

2007 SsangYong Actyon

Ssangyong says the all-new Actyon five door and its brother the Actyon Sports dual cab ute will lead the charge for SsangYong this year. SsangYong has started prices from $29,990 for the 4×4 Actyon petrol and the 4×2 Actyon Sports Ute diesel.

Both models will offer SsangYong’s third generation common rail Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) diesel engine with 104kW of power and 310 Nm of torque.

Actyon features sweeping styling and coupe like appearance and is far removed from the average compact SUV, we believe Actyon offers buyers a real alternative to the current models on offer because of its styling and fuel efficient diesel powerplants,” According to SsangYong Australia, general manager sales and marketing, Brad Larkham

2007 SsangYong Actyon

Both Actyon and the Actyon Sport models have the usual SsangYong design touch, and as such they come with an aerodynamic shape, a shark-like grille and eagle-eye headlights. SsangYong does deserve some credit for hiring some of the most creative designers. However its a case of a hit and miss for SsangYong, but the Actyon

“It’s certainly not a typically boxy 4WD and will stand out for all the right reasons,” said Brad Larkham.

The ESP system which is integrated with all of the Actyon’s systems including the electronically controlled four wheel drive is only offered on the high spec Limited version of the Actyon. Some variants also offer hill descent control.

The front looks like it’s been stolen from a PT Cruiser, the side profile from the new Honda CRV and the rear, I have to admit, is undoubtedly a SsangYong original.. i.e. pretty damned fugly!

  • Lazybones

Ok, so we’re talking a whole new level of ugly here. Its super FUGLY.

I was actually behind a Stavic yesterday and I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of drugs the designers must have been using?

But on the plus side, some good stuff on paper. Like ESP, and a reasonable Diesel engine.

Can’t find any crash safety info on this car. Hopefully more than 2 stars :)

2 weeks ago I went for a test drive on 5 cars in one day. The first car was a Kia Sorento then followed by a Mazda Arista, Mitsubishi Triton, Toyota Hilux and the last one was the Ssangyong Actyon SUT.
Immediately I fall in love with Ssangyong Actyon SUT for its performance, comfort and luxury feel. No other 4 X 4 truck that I’ve known and test drive before can beat this SUT. The pickup was way beyond expectation, maximum load up to 8++ KG, less engine noise heard from inside the cabin, with it’s wider body cornering was more comfortable and stable, the journey was smooth and most importantly My wife and Son who were seated at the rear passenger area have no complain at all.
While the design of the SUT might not attract other, but to me it offer a fearless yet new and fresh look for a truck. The front design offer a sporty and luxury look while from the side it maintain the sporty look added with a smooth body line. The back side, though need improvement ……… but I’ll come up with something to make it look more appealing.
Off all this please bear in mind that I am talking about the Sport Utility TRUCK not the SUV.
Honestly I’ve never though of buying a Ssangyong product before. But now, I am waiting for my new Black Actyon 4×4 SUT which will be arriving this october.
    Bye… and happy test driving.

I got my Actyon Sports and is very happy with it. Rather alarmed though that the model marketted in Malaysia does not come with an electronic power distributor or a rear axle limited speed differential. Wonder how often it would get stuck in the mud offroad!!

Sangyong Malaysia does not seem to know anything about the free LSD as an option as mentioned in Paultan’s blog!!

We have the utility. Done 15k. Good power and air conditioning. Storage in the cabin useless, designed for tiny people/children.

Tyres give bumpy, rough ride in suburbs. In wet above 95kph it slides everywhere – very scary.

Rear tray door jams all the time – it has a real design fault there. Tray hinge bolts fell out last week.

Dealer assistance limited/expensive and Head Office don’t respond to emails.

I used to own a Mazda Bravo 1998 model, It cost $30,000 then and it cost me more over time. Then I owned a Ford, now I know why the Mazda cost me. They are the master extractors of extra funds for your investment and they care very little. Then I also owned a Holden Rodeo 2002, great Isuzu ute/pickup. Then I went searching for something new, I didn’t like anything I saw and the prices turned me off even more. Then I saw the Ssangyong Sports Dual Cab. I bought one and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I now own 3 Ssangyongs and just reluctantly parted with the Rodeo which had been a loyal friend. The Actyon sports ute is great, but it does have rear weight issues which should be easily overcome with airbags (a standard problem for all dual cabs anyway, then we bought a Stavic 2008 model, the best deigned MPV on the market in my opinion, it fits 7 people with boot space to boot, who cares what others think about the design I care about my comfort and that of the family. Now I’ve bought a 2007 Actyon Wagon 2.0l turbo diesel. I was going to get the petrol version but the thought of having old mercedes technology carrying a heavier load then it was originally designed for didn’t turn me on, besides seeing what the turbo diesel is capable of convinced me to spend the extra cash. If you’re sick of spending for high end performance considerations that you’ll probably never use anyway and want comfort and the basics covered at value for money then you’ll need to look at the Ssangyong range

I’ve been driving an Actyon (five door, automatic) for a couple of months and couldn’t be happier! We have not tried it off-road yet, but it’s lovely to drive in the city. Much better steering than on the Audi A4 and the automatic is smooth (sometimes there is a little bump when going from 4th to 2nd though). Fuel is about 0.85l / 10km in the city and the diesel has good power. If you don’t need to carry big things in the trunk it’s a great buy!
