2009 Hyundai i20 at MIMS
February 6, 2009 by David Twomey
As part of a raft of reveals and new product Korean car-maker Hyundai will also show its new light car entrant the 120 at the Melbourne international Motor Show later this month.

Hyundai announced late yesterday that the new i20 small hatch would make its Australian debut at the 2009 Melbourne show, joining the Genesis coupe and the i30 Cross Wagon.
Set to go on sale in the 3rd quarter of this year, the i20 will offer customers premium features and technology now appearing on many larger more expensive models.
The i20 is slightly smaller than the multi-award winning i30 range, and like the i30, the i20 is part of Hyundai’s next generation of vehicles identified by the ‘i’ prefix.

Hyundai says a long wheelbase gives the i20 an athletic stance and allowed the design team to develop a spacious interior package. The i20 carries through the ‘i’ series front grille, incorporating a bold chrome-topped grille flanked by teardrop headlamps.
Designed by Hyundai’s European design studio in Russelsheim, Germany, and Hyundai says the i20 will suit people looking for a sophisticated fuel efficient compact hatch to get around the busy cities of Australia

But will we be getting the diesel versions at a reasonable price?
Looks nice. For some reason the front reminds me of the pontian solace?
Kind of reminds me of Swift in that frontal shot, from the rear quarter it’s like a cross between a Getz (rear door line) Jazz tailights and again the Swift.
So now they’re copying Toyota’s styling philosophy as well? Mush together bits of everyone else’s styling cues and then end up with something that looks slightly melted. The Getz at least had a bit of its own identity. Pass.
Nice little car. Great design. Shame that it will be built and sourced from INDIA though. Seams as though Hyundai is going down the same path that Suzuki is with their new Alto. What happened to Korean Cars being made in Korea? Are they really getting that desperate? Don’t know about the rest of you but I’ll probably give it a miss. Have wait to see what the quality is like (especially on the interior as this is where it really shows) when it arrives here.
Perception = New Car = India = No thanks.
Don’t know what you are on about Phil. Every common car looks similar to another..And sorry, the word style and Toyota do not go together..
I agree with Phil. I believe the call it deriviative styling. However I also agree Toyota and style really dont have alot in common. I dont see any toyota in that i20 design which is also a good thing.

Not a fan. Looks like someone beat up a Swift.
Looks like a stubby i30.
Yet another reason not to buy a Yaris!!!
Cut the crap Realcars and stop bashing.
Yawn…As Jeremy Clarkson once said – I’f you can’t afford a proper car – work harder.
Stevo – wad da ya drive then. No bolix either
Hyundai – soon to be number 1?
I think it looks like Peugeot styled it.
It definitely looks french to me.
If they do bring the diesel, the Polo TDi will be in trouble; this one would have to be much cheaper.
Wow, this looks fantastic! Not as offensive as a Fiesta, but heaps better than the Jazz/2/Barina etc.
Cupid – a proper RWD Aussie made car – that will still be running long after these sh*tboxes are turned into something more useful – a beer can for example.
Tim ??? did you just say this car looks better then a new mazda 2.. and new jazz, are you serious?
PS Barina i can understand :)
If it still has hard plastics galore especially on the dash, no way!
