The all-new Jaguar F-Type sports car looks set to be the first beneficiary of a new generation of traditional manual gearboxes as the British marque believes “sports cars need a manual transmission”.

While still over a year away, Jaguar global brand director Adrian Hallmark told UK publication Autocar that Jaguar recognises the “cost and fun” benefits of manual gearboxes.

“Sports cars need a manual transmission for sports credibility,” Hallmark said, adding that he “can’t imagine” a manual Jaguar XJ, and “the XF is the biggest format we could move to for a manual”.

Hallmark also confirmed to the publication that both Jaguar and Land Rover would employ the next-generation ZF nine-speed automatic gearbox.
