Jerry Seinfeld: comic’s new car show about to hit screens

Back in May CarAdvice told you about American comedian Jerry Seinfeld developing a new car show featuring celebrities. Well, it’s now set to debut on July 19.

A teaser video of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee has been released and features celebrities including Alec Baldwin, Ricky Gervais and Larry David in the passenger seat of classic cars from Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Triumph, Volkswagen and Dodge.

The show will debut at 19:00 ET in the US on the Sony-created Crackle, a website that lets users watch movies, TV shows and original series online for free.

Seinfeld is an avid automotive enthusiast and the owner of one of the largest Porsche collections in the world. His garage features close to 50 different Stuttgart sports cars, including 10 Boxsters, all in different colours, as well as a number of 911s, a 1955 Porsche 550 and a Porsche 959, alone estimated to be valued at $US700,000 ($682,000).

    I am so over Top Gear, so another decent car show is very welcome to me. Top Gear has become far too staged and scripted and therefore lost most of it’s charm. And Jeremy has too much of a tendency to completely trash a brilliant car just because he has an irrational dislike for it (Porsche 911, for example). And seeing as TG wasn’t renewed for a 2012 series I’m obviously not the only one who thinks so. Looking forward to seeing what this is like.

      It wasnt renewed because of the olympics.

      The only thing worse than the original top gear is the Australian version and I guess the US also. They tried to copy the original with all it stupid annoying tendencies rather than just getting on with testing cars. Fifth Gear was generally a much better show.

      I still enjoy Top Gear UK but you have to look at it as an entertainment show, rather than a car review show. The best episodes of Top Gear are the ones where they go on a journey around Europe, Africa or wherever.

      If you want a car review type of show then Fifth Gear is also pretty good.

      What has this got to do with a car review website? Why bring religion and social commentry into it. He obviously doesnt have a problem! What is an issue is that you try and create some kind of crappy, trolling comment just for the sake of it.

      What is more ironic is that Germany is now a significant supplier of military hardware to Israel – things have changed.

      Trolls should stay under the bridge where they belong!
