In car Gadget Holder – Grass Mat

By Alborz Fallah |

You wouldn’t think it would take a genius to come up with this invention, but it has! And that genius is Renault.

Finally someone at Renault had just about enough of all his belongings flying around the car and came up with this:

Renault’s simple holder for gadgets and loose objects should be a standard feature on all cars! (Perhaps with the option of colour matching it to the interior)

You can store anything from iPods, mobile phones, I think you might even get away with sunglasses or anything else about the size of a pack of cigarettes. Renault calls it their “Grass Mat” dashboard trim.

Renault, good interior, good strong gear boxes, moderately good engines, innovation, shit exterior design (most of the time). These guys are so close, only one more thing to work on and they will probably be a success.

Ad if the vehicle is in an accident, all those things in the “grass” which are held just enough to stop them moving while in normal motion become dangerous projectiles. Car safety experts and car manufacturers have for years warned against placing any objects, even with adhesive, on the dash because of the risk they pose in accidents and possible interference with SRS Airbags. Aside from the safety risks to occupants, you would need to hide everything when you leave your car or take it with you because having your ipod, phone and the lot on your dash is a welcome mat for theives. This is a very impractical idea… sorry… a very Renault idea!

Every great idea will attract a whole raft of critics, after all, anybody can criticise, it’s the easiest job in the world and requires absolutley no skill or qualifications.

But you know he is right. I put my mobile in the glovebox when I’m driving, then if it rings I’m not tempted to answer it and endanger my life or those of my passengers if it rings. Plus as Jim said, if I have a high speed crash the phone has no one to hit.

        Good point Jim.
