Renault has given the 2012 Clio Renault Sport 200 Cup a slight tweak while leaving the $36,490 price well alone.

The venerable hot-hatch Clio RS 200 Cup now receives leather upholstery for the sports seats, a white speedometer face instead of the previous yellow and new red stitching for the steering wheel, also instead of yellow.

The Clio’s colour palette has been re-jigged too with Alien Green and Mercury Grey removed leaving the previously available Liquid Yellow, Toro Red, Racing Blue and Black as the available choices.

The naturally aspirated 147kW/215Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine remains, bolted up to the same six-speed manual transmission.

  • save it for the track

I’d have one of these in a heartbeat over a Veloster turbo…. Not everyone cares about Satnav, fancy stereos and the like. I’d wager this naturally aspirated Clio would be quicker around a track (or even point to point on a twisty road) than the Hyundai. No doubt then the Velosters will sell well, and the “driver’s car” Clio will only be bought by those that appreciate a vehicle that handles and begs to be driven, instead of worrying about NVH, satnav and stereos…

Mate horses for courses, though theres more of a market for a factory hot hatch with confort features than a purist one.

Unless on the track, I doubt that for every single day you go to work or whatever you do, the car’s “begging” will please you.

The naturally aspirated 147kW/215Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine remains”. Means it feels the same as the Mazda3 with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine below 6,000rpm.

      Under 3500 more like it

    • Crl

      Mate your ignorant.

    • JooberJCW

How is that so just by judging on power output, on a performance level the mazda3 has nothing on this car.

I SAID BELOW 6000RPM. Unless it has a turbo, it won’t and can’t make significantly more power than any other modern 16 valve 2.0 engines at 1000RPM 2000RPM 3000RPM 4000RPM 5000RPM. After 6000RPM it continues to rev unlike 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine from the Mazda3. Another example is the Honda S2000, drive it at 1000RPM 2000RPM 3000RPM 4000RPM and it feels like any other modern 2.0L car of similar weight. It’s when you floor it at 7900RPM then it’s another story. But 99.9% of the people drive below 6000RPM 99.9% of the time.

You have no idea mate, trust me. But you can bring on even the Mazda SP23 if you want.
        Ignorance is a charm!

Well I have a CLIO RS and I can tell you that they have a BOSE sound system with ipod and bluetooth. They also have gr8 torque from 3000rpm and not just above 6000. The finish is getting better with every new model and if you think a Clio DRIVES like a Mazda 3, YOU have obviously never driven both. A mazda 3 is good but a CLIO RS is the BEST hatch 2nd only to the MEGANE RS

    • save it for the track

Spot on. Those that like their Mazda3’s and will buy Hyundai Velosters, have never driven a car with a sweet chassis that can stick like glue to much more powerful vehicles through the twisty’s on the Nurburgring. (highly recommended) I could easily live with a Clio RS on a daily basis. Some of us don’t mind changing our own gears, and such a vehicle as the Clio has inherent built in safety, simply based on it’s superior handling.

So Agree, I have an Clio RS 200 and have had it for nearly 2 years and its my daily drive and can not faulty it. Having tested a whole range of hot hatchs and ended up with this because its fun to drive and how you can compare a Mazda3 to this is like comparinf a bicycle to a car, it’s stupid.

    • xeno

I own both (albeit older models) and can second that. The best part of my daily grind is getting back in the RS and driving home……always with a smile on my face. Those who haven’t driven these cars don’t know what they’re missing.

    • Clio4Life

Incorrect Busgo54! The Clio RS is the BEST NA hatch, and the Megane RS is the BEST turbo hatch! 😉

    No more alien green!

          Whats Korean you ignorant nut?
Renault Clio RS 200 are all built in Renault’s Dieppe France factory.
          Go play NFS…

I’ve had my new Clio Cup for a month now. Love it. I was set to buy a GTI until I took one on a road test in the hills on a damp day. The throttle mapping and ESP intervention made it impossible to drive the Golf smoothly. The razor sharp Clio thrives in tight, low grip conditions. And it’s as comfortable as our Mazda 3. But that’s where the Mazda comparisons stop. The Clio’s lateral grip is comparable to a WRX.

  • my car not yours

clio sport 200 rs is a wicked car, no turbo great grip and pure power , can wait to take mine on the track
