Mopar Release Drag Package for New Challenger

September 18, 2008 by Alborz Fallah

The new Dodge Challenger has successfully created a cult following globally, even if it is only available in left hand drive. The Mopar faithful are now rejoicing, not only after its come back but the addition of a new option box to tick at the dealership; the ‘Drag Package’.

Mopar Release Drag Package for New Challenger

Revealed at the recent 29th Annual Mopar Mile-High Nationals, the Challenger Drag Pak is 350kgs lighter, has a slightly shorter wheel base and sports three engine options: a 6.1-litre or 5.7-litre HEMI or 5.9-litre Magnum Wedge all available in manual or automatic transmission.

The first drag-race, factory-prepped package car built in 40 years by Dodge, will only be available in limited production numbers of 100, but before you reach for your cheque book and plastic car bubble, Dodge/Mopar have specified that buyers have “a current Competition Licence or sanctioning body affiliation prior to ordering their vehicle”. If that’s not hard enough “the buyer is encouraged to have the Challenger Drag Pak vehicle in competition within a reasonable amount of time.”

If only HSV had a similar stipulation that ensured the W427’s weren’t all locked away!

This is a great idea to ensure these cars are sold to people who will use them to their potential, not as a substitute for a superannuation fund.
More companies should adopt these policies for their track specials.
