The updated 2012 Dodge Journey R/T has officially been released in Australia, joining the Dodge Journey SXT that launched earlier this year.

The $43,500 top-spec Dodge Journey R/T receives the same 206kW/342Nm Chrysler Group 3.6-litre ‘Pentastar’ V6 petrol engine and six-speed automatic transmission as the $37,500 Dodge Journey SXT but with more fruit in the package.

Standard equipment for the Journey R/T includes leather seats (heated fronts), 8.4-inch touch-screen satellite navigation, six-speaker stereo with sub woofer and 368-Watt amplifier, second-row roof-mounted nine-inch screen with wireless headphones, parking sensors with reverse camera and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The changes to the new Dodge Journey may be subtle but the new ‘cross-hair’ grille, revised bumpers and updated LED tail-lights freshen-up the exterior while the interior benefits from a completely redesigned dash, leather upholstery and new three-spoke steering wheel with audio and cruise controls.

The Journey also employs a Trailer Sway Control (TSC) system that helps maintain vehicle and trailer stability when pulling a trailer. The system continuously monitors the driver’s intended path and steering inputs, and when the system’s yaw sensor detects a swaying motion it will automatically apply brake pressure to individual wheels helping to get the trailer back under control.

The new Dodge Journey R/T is $1500 dearer than the previous model’s $42,000 price tag.

Is it still front drive or AWD ?

Isn’t that the Fiat version in that photo?

    • filippo

Good spotting. Yes it’s the Fiat Freemont version.

The Fiat body kit/tails look so much better than the Dodge ones. I’m in Canadia at the moment and they’re everywhere! It’s actually a refreshing sight to see a Pontiac G8.

  • Dcotor

Yes, you can see the Fix-It-Again-Tony badge on the tailgate.

    Mr Dodge Man.

Please make the Charger and or Challenger RHD. How many times do I have to ask?

    R/T = Road and Track.
Why taint the R/T name badge by placing it on a people mover???

I have had a MY12 SXT for 3 mths now. It has been fantastic. The new engine is excellent, esp on the Hwy. The internals are great and the sound system is well worth it.

I have  had my 2012 R/T for 1 month now and am still impressed. There is loads of  power from this 3.6l engine.

Could I ask how the fuel consumption is going (from an owner of one of these vehicles).  I would love a diesel, although I understand that they do not make one currently.  I’m a little concerned that it may be a ‘guzzler’ despite the official consumption reports.  Any other issues that anyone has come across?

I find the fuel consumption is excellent .I previously had a Captiva  &find it better than that

By far the BEST car we have ever owned. We just purchased the brand new 2012 Journey RT and couldnt be happier. We did our homework before purchasing and compared the market and the Journey by far was the outright winner. We compared the Ford Territory, Holden Captiva and Mazda CX9 for just a few examples and value for money and safety inclusions were second to none.
This model has everything you could possibly imagine and some. Spacious, fuel economic and so luxurious to drive. Even with a car load, it was more than enough.
We have always been Ford and Holden people but will never look back now. And we are going to recommend this car to anyone and everyone. Best investment in our driving experience so far.

we have had our 2012 R/T for 4 months and have clocked up 7000 klms. This car is fantastic and has every conceivable feature you could ask for.

I am in the market for a Dodge Journet R/T. Absolutely love the looks and the utility of the Vehicle, drives brilliantly too. I want to know how the performnace is with a full car i.e. atleast 4 adults and 2 kids. They have had significant rotor and brake pad issues in the past, they had to be replaced at at every 9K costing about $850. The dealer tells me that in 2012 those issues have been resolved and not they require replacement only at 40K. Dodge has gone from 3 models to just the 1 in Australia. I have a feeling they are quitting the market. Does anyone have any clue?

My 2012 R/T has just had the 12000 klm service, no problems with brakes .After 6 months I am still impressed with this car. There is plenty of power with a full load. The service cost was just under  $300 ..
