Volkswagen XL1 prototype video
The futuristic-looking Volkswagen XL1 prototype coupe has been captured in motion for the first time.
The video, first published by WorldCarFans, shows the super fuel-efficient gull-winged Volkswagen XL1 prototype driving around an ice track.
The two-seater XL1’s hybrid powertrain is said to use just 0.9 litres of fuel per 100km and emit a meager 24g/km of CO2.
The XL1 concept was first seen at the Qatar motor show in January 2011 with a 35kW 800cc two-cylinder TDI diesel engine teamed with a 19kW electric motor. It was as long and wide as the Volkswagen Polo but stood almost the same height as a Lamborghini Gallardo and weighed just 795kg.
The Volkswagen XL1 is expected to be officially revealed towards the end of 2012 ahead of a limited production run in 2013.
