From Spring 2008, the completely upgraded models will arrive in showrooms nationwide with a host of new features, including Active Parking Assist and the new NTG 2.5 Telematics platform.

The new A-class range features both five and three-door models which it labels deceptively with Saloon and Coupe designations, boasting a completely new look designed to distinguish the new model from its controversial predecessor.

Likewise, the new B-class models sport an equally evolutionary styling enhancement, stemming from the new look bumper design which emphasises the large air intake at the bottom, as well as the modified bonnet.

Both the new-generation A- and B-Class boast an unprecedented level of the latest technology from Mercedes as part of the Metro package.

This package includes an Active Parking Assist system which identifies suitable parallel parking spaces on both sides of the road in passing through the use of side-mounted ultrasonic sensors.

Once the system recognises a suitable spot, and arrow appears on the dash to inform the driver which side of the road the spot is located.

When reverse is selected, after a prompt from the driver the system automatically takes over the steering and manoeuvres the car into the parking space, leaving the driver to simply operate the brake and accelerator accordingly.

Another major new technology making its A- and B-Class debut is the new NTG 2.5 Telematics platform which incorporates Audio 20 AM/FM radio with integrated CD player and MP3, WMA, AAC and Bluetooth hands free compatibility as standard.

      Well gosh, Leonidas08, search me!

Maybe they want a small car AND a Mercedes-Benz! Buying one of these prevents them buying one of each. If they bought one of these, they’d get 2 cars wrapped into one!

      Probably smart, after all.

Great name, great economy, lousy price!

Why do these type of cars always look like a very small mini-vans. I mean all small vehicles are starting to look like this. Though Mercedes is one of the better looking!

Theyre actually not so bad. I think theyre kind of ment for middle class badge snobs more than anything else but they are spacious and practical and no better or worse than the Audi A3 or Volkswagen Golf. I think the problem is that the 1 Series is at least fun to drive but this doesnt have much going for it in looks or driving fun. I think Mercedes should just release a proper hatchback rather than a fleet of different MPVs. Theyre kind of getting a family man/old woman image. I would have an A Class “Coupe”, but only if I didnt have to pay for it. Also, I like how you get a taste of the top of the line S Class in the bottom of the line A Class with the headlights.

I have a current model A170 CVT as my everyday car. I have had it 2 years without any trouble coming from a Mark 4 Golf 1.6 Rally Edition and Mark 3 Golf before that. For city commuting, shopping and the odd county run it has been one of the best all round cars for that purpose. I get 700km on PULP 98 (BP) out of a tank servicing is not too expensive & I brought my car ex demo from MBHQ with 3000km on the clock. Sure it is no traffic light grand prix car but getting around town and putting my bike in the back etc….it is excellent. Inside is Tardis like too, it has heaps of room. Plan on getting a B180CDI next as the everyday car. But I have 2 other cars to get my spped gix with again both MB’s

The problem is, any car half the cost of A or B class would do exactly the same job and far more economical to run.

      Cheers

I bot a b200 ex demo – fantastic car, safety, quality, economy and the space are all factors that made me buy it. Drove an A-class in EU and wanted the same but w bigger boot – this is the best thing I could have bot. Test drove comparative family buses like soft-roaders, Territory etc, this one won me over. No regrets and not a fool either, thanks!

We have a 2007 A Class 170 and a 2008 B 180 CD!. Both are very roomy, practical and economical to drive. Neither of them can be described as a ‘drivers car’ but they make up for it in versatility, economy and safety. Our choice of these cars was based on achieving a smaller carbon foot print and moving away from six cylinder cars whilst also maintaining comfort, reliabilty and safety. So far, we have been happy with our choice.
