2009 Mercedes-Benz CLK Coupe spied
As these latest spy shots reveal, Mercedes-Benz is hard at work on its next generation CLK.
Both the CLK saloon and convertible variants will be based on the new C-class platform but with a few added refinements to meet the expectations of the somewhat more ambitious coupé-drivers.
These new shots reveal the shape of the headlights for the first time, somewhat resembling the new E-class rather than the C-class on which it is based.
The powertrain on the other hand will be lifted from the C-class and will include a V8 unit for the CLK500.
Our sources inform us the new CLK saloon is due to hit dealers across Europe in summer 2009 with the convertible to follow shortly after.

Hence why the point was made in the article that it would be based on the C-class for this generation?

From memory, CLK has always being based on C-class but styled to look like E-class to commend a price premium well over C-class.
Hopefully they can make the new CLK handle well as the current C-class is quite a promising platform to start work with. Wonder if the next AMG version will still use the 6.2 V8, or switch to some form of turbo charged V8.
