Mosler MT900S Photon production capped at one for 2012

By Tim Beissmann |

If you’re after an exclusive supercar, the Mosler MT900S Photon could be a difficult one to ignore.

The Florida-based manufacturer will produce just one MT900S Photon in 2012, making it by default the most exclusive car of the year.

The car has not yet been sold, and could be yours if you’ve got a spare US$479,000 ($449,000) lying around.

Mosler says the MT900, first launched in 2009, continues to be “the world’s top performance sports car”, a claim Mosler backs up by saying it holds the production car lap record at the Virginia International Speedway.

The mid-engined two-seater is powered by a GM-sourced 399kW 7.0-litre V8 and is paired with a six-speed Getrag transmission.

With a total weight of less than 1134kg thanks to its advanced lightweight composite chassis and carbon fibre body panels, the Photon accelerates from 0-60mph (0-96.6km/h) in less than 3.0 seconds and goes on to a top speed in excess of 320km/h.

Mosler has not revealed if production of the supercar will expand in 2013, or if the Photon will continue at its rate of one per year, making it one of the most exclusive cars of all time.

    Yeah.

‘Cause there’s hundred of mid engine Corvettes with 400kw’s just filling up the streets huh.

That bodyshape is starting to look quite dated, but it’s a Mosler, so they get a free pass.

Yeah. I’d think you’d get better styling for that much money. Especially considering how much cheaper cars are over there.

So what is the definition of “production car”?

Screw the Nurburgring, Virginia International Speedway is where it’s at.
