2007 Jeep Compass SUV

By Alborz Fallah |

Jeep has been getting a bit of a battering in our Warranty Complaint section. Infact we are so sure that Jeep has dropped the quality standards to the lowest possible, that we definitely don’t recommend Jeep to anyone except our worse enemies! Nonetheless, it doesn’t stop us from writing about Jeep!

So onto the Jeep Compass which is the first compact four-wheel drive Jeep will offer for sale, representing a new chapter (one that Jeep hopes will profitable) in the history of the Jeep brand.

Jeep is offering the Compass in with a choice of fuel efficient diesel and petrol engines and an all-new 4WD system in a compact sized package.

“Compass is designed to reach young active customers who may not have previously considered the brand but value the distinctive Jeep look and see four-wheel drive as a must-have on their daily drive,” Gerry Jenkins, managing director for the Chrysler Group in Australia.

“The compact 4WD segment is expected to grow in the future, and these new vehicles mean the Jeep brand is ideally placed to meet this growing need,” he said.

The Jeep Compass will be powered by 2.4-litre petrol or 2.0-litre diesel engines. Unfortunately though, Jeep has taken all the hair out of the bold eagle’s head and called the Compass’ Four-Wheel-Drive system the… wait for it… Freedom Drive. God.

Prices for the Compass will be available closer to the release date in the next few months. The Jepp Compass and Patriot as well as the All new 2007 Jeep Wrangler will be on display at the Melbourne International Motorshow.

Not that I’m a huge fan of Jeep or would ever get one, but seriously saying that no one should never get one, is a bit much dont you think?

  • Lazybones

Myke you may have a point, but everyone is entitled to an opinion. The bottom line of buying any car is to drive it yourself and not be too swung on the review or reviewer.

I saw a review on the RAV4 from drive.com. It claimed it does climb hills very well. But I do seriously steep 30% + Gradients just going to the shops!

It has to be said the jeep is seriously fugly. Big grille, Boxy and lots of chrome. Very typical of American cars. Infact if you look at the last 4 articals on American cars you’ll notice they all follow that formula. Even the VE Pontiac had a touch of grille enlargement to make it US Compatible!

I agree with Lazybones. Say what you think, a reviewer with a strong opinion is a good thing IMO. If you don’t like Jeeps then say so. It’s what makes a blog like this interesting.

I don’t like this Jeep, I think it looks Pox.

    See…

Correction: The Drive.Com review says “RAV4 Doesn’t Climb Hills very well”.

I’m not sure which is fuglyest. Tribeca or this Jeep..

  • Myke

The Tribeca looks as though it has the right proportions (on the outside). As it isn’t so much of a structural problem in terms of length, width and height, it just needs a really good facelift. Unlike the Jeep Cherokee, which looks squashed and rather awkward.

I dont know what is wrong with you people. It may not have a great track record of late mechanically, but as visuals go, I see alot of 4wds at horse shows and jeep stands out as the most attractive. The others look boxy and like clunky trucks.

  • FullSteamAhead

    Right on Shelbie !

I am a in my earlie 30′s and have just been drawn to the SUV market cause of a new addition to the family (thanks).

My gal and I like the look of the JEEP Compass over the other common SUV’s on the road.

Beauty is in the eye of the Jeep-Holder ;)

I think it looks great. sad to hear about the warranty complaints though…

    Hi Fullsteamahead,

Just wondering whether you are still happy with your purchase as I am considering buying a Compass for my wife.

    Any feedback most appreciated.

I recently purchased a brand new Jeep Compass Limited and i have nothing i can fault on it. It handles well, the passenger side of the back seat lays back a bit (if you have a kid, as there is in my house) then it is great, lean it back and they fall asleep!

The only thing i have to say is check it has a 6 stacker cd player installed. I am in the process of arguing with my dealer because it has the standard base model single disc cd player!

I would recommend the Jeep Compass Limited to anyone!!!!
