2007 Dodge Nitro

Fans of American SUVs should be happy to know that the Dodge Nitro will be at display at the Melbourne International Motorshow from the 2nd of March. The Nitro will will be available in a choice of petrol and diesel engines.

2007 Dodge Nitro

Dodge which started its come back in Australia last year, is adding the Nitro to its already available lineup of Dodge Caliber vehicles.

With aggressive styling and features like 20-inch alloys and performance suspension the Dodge Nitro delivers that little something mid-size four-wheel drive buyers are still searching for - attitude,” said Gerry Jenkins, managing director, Chrysler Group Australia.

Of course this is coming from Mr Jenkins who was more than happy to admit that most people view American cars as “always big“, I am sure this car doesn’t do much to change that stereotype!

“Dodge’s bold and masculine styling - think Viper and Caliber - is hot-wired into Nitro, inside and out. It’s for customers that want something totally different, that stands out from the crowd. Nitro will heat up the mid-size SUV market giving consumers a quality vehicle with killer looks, unsurpassed utility and features that will surprise,” said Gerry Jenkins

The Dodge Nitro is only a five seater, despite its size. However, as with other dodge cars, the Americans are getting a little creative with car features, if it wasn’t a fridge in the car to hold your Beer and Big mac, its gotta be something else just as crazy.

2007 Dodge Nitro Side

So what does the Nitro get?

  • Load ‘n Go, a new innovation which Dodge says is ideal for loading and unloading packages and other items into the vehicles boot space - the cargo floor travels 46 centimetres, extending over the rear bumper, and holds over 180 kilograms.
  • MyGIG allows customers to use touch screen or voice commands to control all of Nitro’s entertainment and communication technologies, and includes satellite navigation as well as a 20-gigabyte hard drive where music and photos can be stored.

Can I just point out to Dodge, that putting a Hard Drive in a car is a bad bad bad idea, not because the fundamental idea behind the whole thing is flawed, but because Hard Drives tend to die, very often (especially when they are moving while turned on) so having a hard drive in a car, no matter how well protected, is still not the best idea as the hard drive will not last past 5 years or so.

2007 Dodge Nitro

The Nitro is set to come out with

  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP),
  • All-speed Traction Control
  • advanced multi-stage air bags.

As well as over 20 other innovative safety and security features. Dodge says prices for the Nitro will be available at the motroshow.

Who said it looks like a box on wheels? At least this box is painted glossy.

  2. Lazybones Says:

My Word - what a heap of sh*te, I think the designers would have made the wheels square if they could. Yes and the all important chrome grille, how original. Wheel arches more ridiculous than a VE. I’m sure cyclist’s will enjoy the slip stream riding behind that!!

It would make a great snow plough.

  4. Myke Says:

The wheelarches make it seem less boxy, I don’t mind the VE wheelarches. The worst are the Merc S-Class, man they are ugly, not even a 60’s VW Beetle could put them off!

  5. Jonathon Says:

I think the Nitro looks great but I wonder if the H3 will take sales from it when it lands?

I’m not sure of the validity of the slide out tray in the rear? Otherwise, love the look. Be bold or be dead!

Gee I like the look and featutes of these new Dodge Nitro’s, just think compared to other brand AWD or 4WD, you pay under $50G onroad and actually get value for money plus extra’s(eg DVD playe,.
Yes it’s not an actually 4WD but an it’s either 2WD or AWD, but then how many people use the 4WD mode every day of the week and not Just once a month?
I’ll aggree with lazybones,it’s big, bulky, box looking with a chrome grill, but how many people said that PT Crusers wouldn’t sell, now the is an Aust. wide club and the new Dunnydores have flared guards(just like the old SLR’s of the 70’s)and a new Purple that everyone wants.
Basically if you like it buy 1,if not don’t!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe all you knockers should have a good long look at the new Nissan Patrol and the new Toyota Landcruiser. This is the way most of our 4WD will look like.Don’t knock it until you have driven one.

  11. Aldrin Says:

Allan i agree with you, i think it looks great and drives even better. It is well priced and will stand out amongst the 1000s of other boring suvs……

  12. Brian Says:

I took one today for a test drive. Goes well, and handles quite well for a SUV. Downside only comes in Auto and tight for leg room up front.

  13. Paul Says:

I wonder how much Toyota is paying all these website trolls to bag the oppositions products? LOL! They must be getting worried now that there is real alternative to their bland, boring refrigerators on wheels that they have dumped on the Australian market for decades.

Bring on more choices for the consumer!

  14. Lazybones Says:

“Bring on more choices for the consumer!”

Very true Paul, I totally agree with this statement. choice is good and its what we need.

But this Nitro thing is so ugly it will probably scare the local wildlife. Fu*k me you won’t have to worry about hitting a roo ’cause it will be running the other way!! I can’t believe this comes from the people who gave us the sexy little Viper.

    (Report)

  15. wheelnut Says:

Looks like a Jouint project between Range Rover and Nissan.. with bits of the Pathfinder, Navara and Patrol as well as the Freelander and Range Rover Sport.

It possibly would have looked a little bit better with either the Headlights and Grille from a Dodge Ram Truck or the Magnum. particularly with those Flares
