Volvo C30 Green race car World Touring Car Championship race debut
“Qualifying tenth fastest out of twenty-six cars and racing towards the front of the pack, Volvo’s only entry was rammed from behind by the Bloody SEAT driver, Rickard Rydell”
- Anthony Crawford
Scoring seventh fastest in testing at Brands Hatch last weekend, the brand new Volvo C30 Green racer was looking to match it with the world’s best touring car entries before being hit from behind by the outqualified veteran, Rydell.
It was a huge effort by Volvo driver Robert Dahlgren, who was fighting for tenth position with James Thompson, before he was forced off the road.
All the more impressive when you consider the car was using a totally new tyre compound, and had a 42-45 kilo weight disadvantage due to the ethanol in the tank.
Clearly, the C30 is a threat given that a top ranked factory driver had to crash into it, to get past.
Let’s hope the head honchos at Volvo give the team a second car for any further WTCC rounds. Maybe they’ll even win a couple if they can steer clear of the traffic.

The irony will not be lost on Volvo. Rydell is, of course, a Swedish driver who for many years was a Volvo works driver and won both the British Touring Car Championship (1998) and the Bathurst Super Touring 1000 (1998) driving Volvos.
Yes, Rydell has along history with Volvo, quite ironic, and a hsame for Volvo. I think this is all heading towards Volvo entering a works team into WTCC once more. Remember from 2001-2004 they had a works team in the ETCC (the WTCC precursor) with the S60..
I’m just amazed at the amount of camber on the rear wheels of that Volvo
When a car gets hit from behind on the track, it’s usually an indication the thing is too slow.
Reckless 1, may I suggest you get a little more informed before shooting that little mouth of yours off?
I wonder if Dahlgren’s hat was knocked off during the incident…
Clearly Volvo С30 super a racing car and threat for other commands,
Only bloody seat hardly has prevented
