CarAdvice is about to hop into the driver’s seat of Volvo’s most potent model in their current line-up; the S60 Polestar.
Polestar has been Volvo’s official motorsport partner since 1996, and with their considerable experience in developing Volvo race cars for competition in both the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STTC) and the World Touring Car Championship (WTTC), offer Performance enhancing packages for selected Volvo production series models.
Volvo Car Australia will introduce the S60 Polestar, which is essentially a factory-tuned version of the S60 T6 packing a modest increase in power and torque, but without affecting the fuel consumption over the standard model. Power goes from 224 kW to 242 kW, and torque rises to 480 Nm from 440 Nm.
The Polestar package also includes various suspension upgrades including sports suspension with monotube damping at the rear. Springs and bushings have also been stiffened, and ride height has been lowered by 15 milimetres for more focused dynamics.
Additional to the suspension upgrades is an advanced stability control using a roll angle sensor, DTSC system with a sports setting, Corner Traction Control and advanced braking functions including Ready Alert Brakes and Hydraulic Brake Assist.
Stylistically, the S60 Polestar is based on the S60 T6 R Design variant, but adds a unique rear diffuser to handle the quad exhaust system.
Another noticeable addition is the 19-inch wheel package by Heico, shod with premium Pirelli P-Zero rubber.
There’s also a small blue Polestar badge on the boot lid and each car is individually numbered with a small plaque on the centre stack.
The S60 Polestar will be priced from $82,990 and carry a full 3-year unlimited km factory warranty with 3 years free roadside assistance and a service interval of 15,000 kilometres.
CarAdvice will provide a review of the car’s performance after a drive program tomorrow that will incorporate a range of different driving conditions throughout the route.
