July 15, 2008 by George Skentzos

BMW has gone to great lengths to disguise its new 5-Series based BMW PAS, completely re-skinning the car to hide its true lines.

The initial digital impression certainly relies upon some significant artistic freedom, although you can certainly expect to see a significant resemblance to the new 5-Series along with a similar if not identical engine line-up.

Early reports speculated this would be BMW’s answer to the Mercedes R-Class; however this is not the case.

As these spy shots reveal – the PAS is a true fastback more likened to a sports tourer rather than a people mover.

It is set to offer a more practical alternative to the BMW X6 while still being considerably smaller than the Mercedes R-Class.

I’m sure it will look better than that CGI version. For starters the line that runs under the door handles will continue onto the front quarter panel down to the front lights.

  2. random says:

that has to be the ugliest car i’ve ever seen, and yes I have seen the ssangyong stavic and first generation subaru tribeca with the hidious front.

It looks like they have taken the new subaru impreza mid section with the line though the door handles to the rear light, then blow it up by 50%, then cut the front of a 3 series and put that on the front, then taken the wheels from a M5. It actually looks worse then the R class merc, which is saying something.

  3. Agree with the other guys. Too much Impreza going on here, but if BMW wants to copy Subaru’s cockup, what’s the problem? Put the blue propellor badge on a skip full of dog turds and it will sell like crazy. They’re proving it with the X6, which is a bad copy of the world’s ugliest car, the Ssangyong Actyon.

  4. Alex says:

CGI looks like a hearse SUV hatchback.

  5. Alex says:

  6. crazychook says:

  7. You’d buy a skip full of dog turds would you Alex?

  8. jbot says:

  10. Alex says:

No Captain Mainwaring but Id buy an ugly BMW

  11. Alex says:

Just Kidding :) I think it will probably look alot better than this anyway.
